How to choose a good DRY food replacement for a senior cat (I ALSO feed wet)

First off it is my understanding that unless your senior cat has been diagnosed with failing kidneys, a high protein diet with associated increases in Phosphorous is fine.  My family currently feeds our three cats a mix of wet and dry as well. We feed Nature's Variety Instinct chicken for dry...

What would you say are the necessary items for having a cat?

Personally I have a cat that  tries to eat anything put on him so I would recommend a microchip as an option even if you have a collar.  Microchips are great way to ensure if anything happens your kitty can be returned to his home.  Another thing people need is patience! Kittens can and will...

    Clicker Training

Thanks for your explanation! I plan to start clicker training mid December when I gave more free time. I already bought clickers from amazon and I'm thinking of using some freeze chicken dried treats that will only be used for clicker training.

    Clicker Training

I'm very interested in how you taught your cats those tricks! I would love to clicker train my family's cats but we tried a little and never had much success.  Sorry I don't have any other tricks for you to teach your cats. I am especially uncertain how to clicker train the cats when they all...

Not get away from the topic of the thread. But yes I agree with everything you said!

    Looking to try something new!

You would be right Tiki cat is shredded chicken so you should probably stay away from that brand.  I do believe Nature's Variety Instinct is more of a pate style, my cats will eat it so the chicken is in their rotation.  I tried the turkey and they don't like that flavor as much.  But I really...

    Feline Distemper Vaccine

Recently one of my family's cats went to the vet and we got rabies and feline distemper shots.  I'm fine with the rabies shot because it is the law where we live.  But I was wondering what is your opinion of feline distemper vaccines?  I've read that it can be a very serious disease but I don't...

    Cat nip toys

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in for my question, so if it is not in the right place feel free to move it. It's almost my kitties birthday and I want to get them some cat nip stuffed toys that they can use to bunny kick and hug.  We have a few old cat nip pillows but they have...

Comparable replacement for Natures Variety Instinct Rabbit. Canned. Know of any?

Hounds and gato makes rabbit that is sourced from the US. Some cats don't like the texture because its a very thick pâté since it has three ( I think) types of gums. But I like the ingredients there are no unnecessary fruits or veggies just meat, gums, and vitamins.

    Brushing teeth

Exactly, it wasn't until a couple years after having our cats I that I realized that people should brush their cats teeth and the vet having to clean Otis' teeth  gave me the motivation I needed to start brushing their teeth.  It's great to hear so many of you have been at least somewhat...

    Brushing teeth

I also recommend this website as a starting point on how to brush your cats teeth http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/pet-owners/cat-teeth/entire-video.   @pinkdagger I am glad that things are going so well for you and your cat Kismet! Learning to brush Kismet's teeth before any major problems...

    Brushing teeth

@pinkdagger If you get the right flavor, my Otis goes crazy for the CET Poultry flavor so that might help. I always start and end teeth brushing with a lick directly from the tube. I also find the less handling the better because trying too hard can result in Otis slipping away from me. But he...

Enclosed beds that survive washing? Armarkat?

The Neko napper pet house is considerably pricey at $65 but it looks to be high quality and states it is machine washable. It may work for your cat. http://consciouscat.net/2013/12/11/review-neko-napper-pet-house/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FE3F814/?tag=&tag=thecatsite Another...

Which would be the lesser of 2 evils : Carrageenan or Menadione sodium bisulfite complex ?

I also believe tiki cat is free of both those ingredients one and a half cats can correct me if I'm wrong.

    Feather toys?

Yes in my opinion they are very safe. To ensure your cat's safety just watch them when they are playing with the toys and throw away the feathers that fall off. I have never had an issue with feather toys, one of my favorites is the Da Bird toy which uses feathers.

New Tiki Cat line of wet food (Gourmet Carnivore)

I was wondering how you guys felt about the chicken and turkey flavor. Here is a link http://www.petflow.com/product/tiki-cat/tiki-cat-gourmet-carnivore-grain-free-chicken-with-turkey-canned-cat-food. I didn't see any mention of anything but chicken and turkey unlike the beef flavors that say...

    Brushing teeth

Thanks, for the tips. And at least your helping your kitties teeth now! I think part of my problem is that I am impatient and want my cat to accept brushing his teeth sooner. But I realized I've never really even pet his mouth/lips so I'm thinking of starting with that before trying to force the...

    Brushing teeth

Recently my cat, Otis, who is only 2 had his teeth cleaned by the vet after she said his teeth looked like they were the teeth of a 6 year old. Luckily he didn't have any reabsorption lesions or other teeth problems once they were cleaned. So I bought some poultry flavored toothpaste and a...
