Redirected cat aggression--separation making it worse?

tdonline, something occurred to me when I read "The action usually happens in the morning and later in the evening". I read somewhere that these are the times of day when kitties usually hunt. How do Dory and Josie like interactive play? My idea is maybe you can engage them (especially the one...

Redirected cat aggression--separation making it worse?

Hi, TD, I met with a cat behaviorist last week to help me with a reintroduction plan when I bring George back into the house.  She gave me step by step instructions and I think you're at the last step (actual reintroduction).  I bolded the part about squabbling/hissing. She says: "Step 3...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

I am in the same position and am also worried, living alone.  This is one of the reasons I'm thinking of hiring a cat behaviorist to help me with the reintroduction of my cats.  I really want help kind of figuring out the nuts and bolts of it. How to separate my small apartment into halves and...

George and Ira's guardian is new to the site

Hi, Betsy!  They are almost 8 years old!  Hard to believe.  I got them when they were 4 months old in 2006.  Their names at the shelter were Spork and Spoon (their sister, who had already been adopted, was named Spatulina). :-)  I got rid of those names right away. haha.

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

this is really helpful to hear, MikeLI. I'm kind of thinking of 2014 as the YEAR I get me cats back together.  Reading about your experience and TDOnline's experience makes me realize I just need to be patient and do a little bit each day. I'm really determined to work hard and get them back...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

Bonniewood, I found this site in my rigorous googling after my cats' terrible incident on Saturday: http://www.animalhumanesociety.org/training/library/aggression-household-cats It lists types of aggression and possible reasons.  I *think* my cats are going through #3, fear-based aggression...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

Thank you so much, tdonline, I feel like I know what to ask about with the vet tomorrow and I may even get some of that sleep and sanity tomorrow night if they are a bit drugged! Same as you, Ira tries to attack George even with the door closed.  It would be great to at least lessen the horrible...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

It's really good to hear about these tricks now, since I"m so early in the process....I will think about harnesses and snug shirts.  If all goes well and my friend takes George, the victim cat, I'll have some weeks to figure out a plan, not only doing the towel scent introduction thing but also...

Redirected cat aggression--separation making it worse?

tdonline, you weren't joking, we ARE going through nearly the same thing.  The only difference is my cats are boys, and you've been going through it longer and have tried more stuff.  I hope it goes well for you, I will be looking for your follow-up posts.

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

tdonline - thank you SO MUCH for this. Although it is pretty disheartening that you haven't been able to reintroduce your cats yet.  I've only been going through this for a day and a half, I cannot imagine doing this for more than a month. It sounds like the fluoxentine helps with the crying...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. I'm hoping that it's something medical going on with Ira. I really REALLY don't want to have to do the whole reintroduce thing.  Having them in separate rooms is utterly insane because they both cry and scratch at the doors ALL NIGHT.  I have gotten about...

    Aggression Between Sibling Cats

It's crazy that I found this thread, as it's very close to what happened with my cats George and Ira this morning.  I have two 7 year old males who are litter mates. They have always gotten along, grooming each other, cuddling, and occasionally wrestling/play fighting.  What happened this...
