Getting in the weeds with raw recipe nutrition

Unfortunately mine will not eat the venison, lamb, or beef. My boy did eat lamb for awhile, but he started puking it consistently so I removed it from the rotation. I didn't realize they had added pork, though! It is very pricey, though, and really you could buy organic meat from a farmer (fit...

Getting in the weeds with raw recipe nutrition

Hi! I haven't posted here for awhile. I'm returning because I needs some thoughts from everyone. I'm so sorry that I'm long-winded! Background: I have two kitties ~4 years old, who both were started on raw food right after adoption as kittens. They have thrived on it; they have gorgeous coats...

    Poop on foot

Have you tried sort of pressing a soaking, warm cloth against her paws to loosen the litter/poop? If it's really stuck on there it might take some soaking to loosen it, then it should wipe off easily without removing any fur. If she goes back in the litter with wet paws, though, litter will...

How aggressive with fleas... am I crunchy and delusional?

Crunchy is like... Granola (crunchy) eating hippie. Lol. I thought about using something like that, glad to hear it works (sometimes)! My vet back before we moved has gone to rehab care only and doesn't provide primary care anymore... I was hoping to take my time finding a good one in our new...

How aggressive with fleas... am I crunchy and delusional?

I'm a pretty crunchy person in general...my boy and girl eat an all-raw diet, we use a holistic vet, etc. But, my husband and I both work in healthcare so we're all aware that sometimes conventional medicine is the answer. We moved from our apartment to a house in a borderline rural/suburban...

    Claw trimming nightmare

We have this issue with our girl...adopted as a kitten, now about 1 year old. She has made great.strides in allowing us to pet her and is a social lap cat who will great guests...but heaven help those who try to touch her paws! We were sooo persistent in trying to use positive reinforcement, get...

Ultrasonic humidifiers - can cats hear them? Should I stay away from them?

I'm glad you posted about this...I was also looking at an ultrasonic and had similar thoughts. I know my kitties reacted badly to the noisier air purifier (non-ultrasonic) I bought this summer, but they still pass out in the same room it's in, regardless. Do you like that model so far? I've put...

    Dental alternatives - anxious kitty

Thanks to all who replied. I took her up to get bloodwork and she behaved like a gem - although they took her out of sight and she was probably just really nervous, but she was quiet and calm. Tomorrow is the big day, and I'm feeling a lot more confident about it.

    Dental alternatives - anxious kitty

Thanks for the link. Sadly, none in my state or close! I talked to the vet office and they use Feliway, so hopefully that will help. I think I just need someone to tell me that cats get dentals all of the time, and that in 99% of the cases it's no. big. deal. Ever feel confident about something...

    Dental alternatives - anxious kitty

I'm just so fussy about my vet and I was really hoping that he (kinda hippie-crunchy-gentle-holistic) would be able to do the dental. I'm transitioning her to raw and my kitties have always been raw-fed so I'm hoping to minimize the need for many future dental interventions. Maybe I'm just...

    Dental alternatives - anxious kitty

My vet says my mother's six year old cat has significant tartar and needs a dental appointment (under anaesthesia, etc.). She's been fed only canned food and looking at her teeth, there is a lot of buildup. My vet is shifting his practice focus so there are limited appointments and unfortunately...

Insurance difference - DSH vs DMH?

That's what I think I'll do...if the vet says, then the vet says!    His tail is like one of those feather dusters and I'm so glad he likes tummy rubs because then I get to run my hand through all that fluff!

Insurance difference - DSH vs DMH?

Ha, thanks - I definitely adopted him based on laid-back, affectionate, social purrsonality, but the shelter agent told me she had a list of ten different people wanting to adopt him if I didn't seal the deal...he's very handsome, and he's got six toes on his front paws.

    Autoimmune

I am a dietitian - for people, of course - but one of the things I recommend with autoimmune illness is eliminating gluten from the diet, or, if the patient is really committed, trying an autoimmune protocol - eliminating grains, legumes, dairy, nuts and seeds, and nightshades. Oftentimes there...

    cat tummy

Both of the (normal weight) spayed girl cats I've had/had developed little bellies - mostly fluffy and loose skin. I call it their "poof" and think it's pretty darn cute.

Insurance difference - DSH vs DMH?

I did an insurance quote on my new rescue kitten, since I figure it's better to do it now - I hope he's always healthy, but it's better to have had insurance if he becomes ill. He is fluffy and kitten-y and the tag on his cage at the adoption center had "domestic medium hair" written, but the...

Question From A Friend Of Mine!

My kitten was like this, too, for awhile until she "grew up" a bit. She scaled curtains, attacked my dresses and husband's ties hanging in our closet, tried to chew on our (new) living room couch and dig her nails into it, climbed all over our fabric-covered dining room chairs. At one point, I...

Third eyelid not retracted, kitty cold?

Those are all great tips! Thank you. The steaming idea is really good...she loves to sit by the tub when it's filled with steamy water. You've been very reassuring and helpful. She perked up a little after eating.
