So a brief update. We’re sitti watching a movie right now, and Lizzie was let out of the laundry room because we’re both here. She hid behind the couch for a little bit and then a few minutes ago got up on the couch, walked over to Kona, rubbed up against her and then laid down right next to...
Thank you danteshuman! Lizzie loves my boyfriend, so fortunately that’s one obstacle I don’t think we’ll have to face. Kona is now also at the point where she won’t approach Lizzie, but we’ll try to put her on a leash too. I would’ve liked to have Lizzie in the room with us last night, but Kona...
(Warning: long post ahead)
I adopted my Lizzie two years ago, and since then she has been an only pet. She has been loving, playful, and super affectionate. My boyfriend and I are moving in together, and he has a 9 year old Morkie(she’s tiny and essentially a cat, super chill personality).
We...
Hey all! Not a concern or an issue, just a little quirk I've noticed my Lizzie doing and I wonder if anybody else's kitty does this too. Lately I've noticed that when I come home, Lizzie will greet me by doing two things. First, she touches her nose to mine, which I know is how cats sometimes...
I know I just posted one but had to add this one. While I'm immersed in writing lesson plans (on a Friday night) Lizzie climbs into my lap (literally stepping on my arms in the way) and circled up. Too cute for me to be annoyed.
Quick update: Lizzie's still eating well. She's gained some of her weight back; I can still feel her ribs but there's a little padding there. We're on day 5 of reducing the daily dose of pred to .35 mL and she seems to be eating more or less normally. Keeping the fingers crossed, we'll go back...
Wanted to stop back in as it's been a little while. I've switched Lizzie to Royal Canin Rabbit & Pea canned, and after a few days she started gobbling it all up. It used to be that there would still be about 1/3 of what I fed her at 5 am still in the bowl when I got home around 4:30, but now...
So we're trying out the Royal Canin rabbit and pea, just to see if it'a more appetizing to her than the z/d so she can gain that weight back. I'm convinced that either would be fine if I could give her three slightly smaller meals rather than the half can in the morning and half can at night...
Which brand was that? I had her on Royal Canin two diets ago (yeah, it's been a journey), but the receptionist at my current vet's office told me Purina EN was better. Which is why I was then a little confused as to why the vet mentioned Royal Canin as an option tonight, but she said because...
So we just had a check-in at the vet. Lizzie is now down to 5.75 lbs, which isn't surprising because she's only eating about 115 calories a day. The vet wants to focus on calorie intake for now, and I could change foods if I wanted to see if something else would be more tempting for her. At this...
@IndyJones I do appreciate you offering up suggestions! I'm really hoping it's an allergy and we can pin it down. We have Lizzie on the pred for now because I sincerely doubt I would be able to give her an anti-nausea pill. The pred is a liquid suspension so I can just mix it in with her food...
@IndyJones we did a urinalysis and full blood panel back in November. Everything came out normal, which was good and annoying. Nothing kidney-wise, etc. is wrong but now we're trying to figure out exactly what it is and it's been quite the journey.
@IndyJones she actually had 7 teeth pulled back in September, and there's another one my current vet wants to watch. Just under 2 years old at that point :-( Her appetite definitely got better after the extraction but the vomiting came back after about a month.
@JClark thank you for the suggestions! I'm glad that night is better because that is when I give her the Prednisolone. My next step is talking to my vet about a novel protein diet. The way you explained the hydrolized is exactly how my vet did (and it actually made sense!) and given Lizzie's...
My previous vet had suspected IBD for Lizzie, but we kind of strayed away from that in switching to my current vet (who I like much better) and the exploration of a possible food allergy.
For the first 6 months of Lizzie's time with me, she ate Purina One canned food, usually turkey or chicken...
