It sounds like your cat improved, Britt0285. My cat eats very small amounts, and I cant tell if she is drinking much. A vet tech suggested giving her moist kitten food which is a little higher in fat and protein.
If anyone is still following this post......
This cat weighed 6.4lbs on Sept 23. She was treated for tape worms by injection and given Advantage-Multi for fleas and I'm told advantage-multi also addresses other worm types.
Today I weighed her again. She is at 5.4 lbs.....still loosing...
My concern is she is barely eating and drinking, at least so far as I can see. I put a can of moist high quality cat food out and she just licks at it....not taking bites. This might take time for recovery. She weights 6 lbs. I don't know her original weight but I suspect she was at 9 lbs...
She saw the Vet today. He confirmed a serious case of fleas and suspects tape worms as well. He treated with a shot for the worms and advantage for the fleas.
Im told she should bounce back fast.....unless there is another underlying problem.
Thanks to everyone for their advice.
I think she was born around 2002, spayed in 2005, showing signs of blindness in 2009, now she is not eating, definitely loosing weight. I can feel the prominence of her spine. She seems in good spirits. Moves slow. Sits on my lap and purs for a minute then just sits quietly.
I took her to...
I will consider asking for a blood panel to test her thyroid and blood sugar...but I think he would have suggested this if he believed there is a reasonable chance of finding something to fix.
I feel this vet well qualified. He's younger, but experienced, out of vet school maybe 10-15 years...

correct....no further blood work or tests. Vet apparently believes even if we know the cause.....there is no treatment.
She is home and will live out the rest of her life as comfortable as possible.
I just got back from the Vet....He did the "shine the light in the eyes test " and found no real reaction on the left eye, slow reaction in the right. So there is vision loss. He saw no retina scarring and the heart sounded normal, both would be symptoms of taurine insufficiency. He doesn't...
Im thinking about the vet.....but if all Im going to hear is "there is nothing that can be done" ...she will live the rest of her life as a comfortable cat, doing what cats do, and taking cat chances. We all have to die sometime from something.
Im really looking for someone who understands cat...
I have a 2002 model (about 7 years old) showing signs of hesitation and uncertainty about her walking. Im concerned, but far from certain that she may be going blind.
Im not planning to see a vet (yet) as I believe in non- interference (for the most part) and survival of the fittest. This...
