Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Ok, new update.  So, both cats allow me to pet them when they are in the cat tree....neither appears to be real thrilled though when I do it. ;)  Over the past week or two, I have been leaving the office (aka "cat room") door open at night while I am in here, so the boys can go wandering through...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Sorry for the lack of updates!  Things are going well.  Of course, the boys still don't "Love" me yet, but just in the last couple days they have been comfortable enough to clean each other and play with each other while I am in the room.  Wade (the cream colored one) will even play with me with...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Sorry, I haven't been on here much lately!  As far as my Autistic son, he's not an animal fan (which makes me wonder how he's my kid). ;)  Before the cats, we had a dog for years, and my son, Jareb, just co-existed with the dog.  He didn't hate the dog, he was more just indifferent toward him. ...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Ok, sorry for no update, so here it is.  We are on about day 16 now.  Stormy comes out to eat sometimes while I'm in here, and for the last 3 or 4 days he has started to come out from the corner and lay in a spot he likes (that's basically out in the open) while I am in here....very excited...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Update: As of last Wednesday, the boys are now home, with me. :)  Woo hoo!!!  I have discovered the following things so far: Wade (the cream one & 3 legged one) loves to climb and hide up high (although he hides behind things just as well), where as Stormy is more of a cave dwelling hider (he...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

My mom has them for her cat, and I know of others that have had it too.  It helps with the saliva/dander issue.  Here's a link I found that talks about it. http://www.petcarenaturally.com/articles/people-with-allergies-to-pets.php

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Just so everyone knows, they are actually out in the lobby area and stuff wandering throughout the day.  They are not in the cage all the time, which is a huge bonus.  They even have a cat tree there for them, and the size of my office (about 8 x 10) is just cozy enough for them to transition in...

Brother Cats Raised in a Shelter

Those were my thoughts about keeping them in their room, so thank you for verifying that.  I guess I am a bit worried about whether or not they will come around.  While I truly believe that they can (at least Stormy), there's still that nagging feeling of "what if" I bring them here and after...

Brother Cats Raised in a Shelter

So, I have a post started under the behavior category, but I thought I'd start one here, as it may be more appropriate for my issue. I am looking at adopting two 3 year old cats that are brothers.  They have been in the shelter since they were 3 months old.  They tolerate people in the room...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

I haven't even gotten the cats quite yet, but I already ordered an awesome tree with 2 hiding places in it....1 for each.  I will keep it in "their room" while I work with them, and once they are able to wander the house, I will have it out near the large sliding glass door that overlooks the...

Adopting 3 year old male cats that have always lived at the shelter

Re: "Stormy has a leg up on Wade, but I'm sure they'll both get there.  "  Wade might take offense to that, as he is literally 1 leg less than Stormy.  :)  hehehehehehe So, I am guessing they should be upstairs in the smaller room then?
