That's what's great about the all-purpose term "kids" but you're right, people get way too focused on trivial BS at the expense of a lot of other stuff.

Have you tried using Feliway at all? That's pretty good for calming down cats and reducing aggressive behavior.

Introducing new cats to each other can take a few weeks, and you want to make sure your existing cat doesn't feel left out.

You might also want to get some Feliway and spray their carriers and around the car a bit. It might calm them down some.

Something like 10-15-20% of cat don't react at all to catnip, so don't be surprised about that.

There is also the breed (I forget which exactly) which is hairless and thus no dander, so should be ok for allergic people. They do look kinda freaky though.
