    Indoor versus outdoor

I understand the safety concerns. But I'm curious about HOW do you do it. How do you keep them inside? Right now we have all our windows and doors open because the weather is so beautiful. Starlight is sitting on the front porch with me. Every time a car drives by she runs back inside! We...

using the fireplace as a litter box

Starlight has started using the fireplace as a litter box. EEW! I can see that the ash and such has a litter-like quality. But, it's gross. How do I teach her not to do that? She happily continues to use her regular box upstairs, but has just recently added this as a little extra! HELP!!!

funky eye - should i worry?

Thanks again all! Her 3rd eyelid looks white. The discharge is almost gone, but is (and has been) entirely clear. She's definitely sneezing more than usual. Other than that she's totally normal - eating, drinking, using the litter, playing with my kids, mostly just sleeping in a sunny window...

funky eye - should i worry?

And what would you do about that? My kids get eye drops. Are there cat eye drops? I actually always start with drops of breastmilk for my kids and I'd say 3 out of 4 times it clears it right up!

do you take them to the vet at 1st sign of possible illness?

I really hope this post doesn't make it seem that I don't care about Starlight and her health! I certainly do! But - Do you all take your cats to the vet at the first sign that they might be sick? I see a lot of posts when people ask about health stuff and the most common response is to take...

funky eye - should i worry?

Starlight is 5 months old. She's a great kitten! Today I noticed that her left eye looks kind of dull and goopy. It's not bright and clear like the other eye. It has a little bit of discharge. When we first got her, she was very sick and had lots of yellowy crusty stuff that made it hard...

she pooped on my bed! Why???

Hmm.... I really can't think that anything was different at all - attention, etc. How do I tell her it was wrong? I didn't catch her in the act - I found the mess later. So I don't know how to "discipline" her!

she pooped on my bed! Why???

My 4 month old kitten pooped on my bed! WHY!!!??? Her litter is the same kind she's always had, in the same box, in the same location, and totally clean (changed a few hours earlier). Nothing interesting or new has happened. So why did this happen? And what can I do to prevent it in the future?

We are thinking about having a baby!!

Yes - same here about the birth control. I mean, I was on it and my family either didn't know or didn't approve. That was OK with me, though. When you say it's something you don't agree with - do you mean you don't agree with the use of BC or with their disagreement with it? Oh, I guess you...

We are thinking about having a baby!!

Cool! I got some pressure when I was first married for 3 years without getting pregnant (intentionally). We were Roman Catholic and no one could figure it out. They assumed we were having trouble getting pregnant. Well, a birth control pill does cause some trouble with that! My first...

We are thinking about having a baby!!

Yay! Congrats on the beginning of an amazing journey! I was 25 when I had my first and 28 with my 2nd. Now she is starting kindergarten and he's starting preschool! Unreal! I have to be the dissenting voice on the What to Expect Book. I hated it. I think it's very alarmist and...

    kitten's playful biting

Yes, she is an only cat. And there are 4 of us home full time this summer (mom, dad, 5 year old girl, toddler boy), so she has lots of prey/playmates! Thanks for the tips! I do the same thing you suggested when my toddler bit while nursing - and it work!ed Not sure why I didn't think of that...

    kitten's playful biting

Starlight is 13 weeks. She is a great cat and we are having so much fun with her! She bites us playfully, but it's annoying and hurts. Why does she do this? What can I do to stop her? I am certain that she's just playing - not mean. Any ideas?
