My cat went through being constipated for years! During the past year, the problem occurred often. He was 14 and went to Kitty Heaven about 10 days ago. When things were getting bad, a small, large, hard "chunk" would come out. Always in his litter box.........but I think it was when he...
Thank you so much, oneandahalfcats and Go Holistic. I appreciate your replies. And advice! I am trying to exercise my remaining kitty. He has been mostly sleeping.........ordinarily, he and my Rascal would be running around more.
Hello,
I'm here to give an update on my cat Rascal........an almost 14 year old Maine Coon..........the very best cat EVER. He ruled my world! He had megacolon..........at age 3 he had to have feces manually removed. A pocket formed in his colon and he took Lactulose (2ml) twice a day for 10...
Thank you for the advice about Slippery Elm and the littlebigcat.com article. Very interesting. When you say you give your kitty probiotics, exactly what do you mean?
How nice of you to check with your vet. I think it is close to 5 days since my cat has had a bowel movement. However, after the enemas, I think my kitty got very cleaned out. And I think he may have had a couple of small bowel movements but it could have been my other cat. The vet is not in...
Letting our beloved, dear cat go when his or her time is near, is heartbreaking. The kind words on this thread must comfort you greatly. The words bring back to me the pain of many generations of my beloved cats. It is never easy. But for our cats, it is a serene and personal time for you...
My cat's skin doesn't feel dehydrated to me. Thank you, oneandahalfcats, for the advice about checking his skin. I called the vet about prescribing Cisapride for him but she said she needs to see him and do lab work, xrays, etc. Plus, it is the weekend now so it would be double expensive...
I haven't tried Cisapride. The vet said that would require lab work. With the whole enema routine, etc., I can't afford $250.00 right now :( But I could go and get sub-q's. That is fluids administered in an iv, right?
Thanks for your input, Raintyger. I just don't know what to do! I'm hoping that the extra dose of Miralax gets things moving in my kitty. I'm also thinking of a more raw, homemade diet. IF my cat gets through this spell of being constipated.
My vet recommended Royal Canin Fiber Response food also. I just can't make myself give my cat dry food.........when it appears that his stools are too dry already! Your post is the first that I have seen that actually says Royal Canin Fiber Response works! I have the unopened bag right...
Thanks for your advice about extra water. I've been giving him syringes of water often throughout the day. And I add water to his already wet canned food.
I have a Maine Coon cat.....he is 13. When he was 3, he had to have his colon cleaned out manually. For the next 10 years, he was on wet food (not grain free but Wellness) and 2 ml of Lactulose twice a day. All was well until a year ago when he had it happen again. His stools have always...
