I'm missing our wonderful George (my avatar) who died last year. He was a 'rescue' and ours for 9 years. We've looked at more 'rescue' cats but I'm not sure I'm ready. George saw us through a dreadful family experience (I think he knew it) and there's still strong memories...

Will she be there when I call?
I sometimes come in vain

LOVEly. We had a grey and white (part blue?) from kitten to age 9 when she left us (kidney problems - never diagnosed really). She was always a bit wild in some ways but so friendly in others - very trusting.
Thanks for the comments, all. George is lying in the garden (backyard) at the moment enjoying some rare warmth in a poor UK summer again this year.

So here is George our second cat:
As you can see he's very laid back, but can be very persistent sometimes when he decides it's his feed time - which can be any time of the day. Fussy eater though.
