    Cat with mournful moan

That's a great point - my parents' cat Max got more vocal when he developed UT issues as well.  If any behaviour seems abnormal or over the top it's definitely worth looking in to.

Hi there! Insert generic intro thread title here.

To be fair, I'm actually a Western New Yorker, Long Islander for school purposes only :P I'm out in Suffolk County attending Stony Brook.  Nice to see someone close by!  Your kitties are beautiful!

Tips on cat climbing equipment build

I'd like to build if possible, as I have a pretty small car and may have to leave it behind if I leave the area (I am attending school on Long Island, but do not want to live here after).   The Craigslist recommendation is one I hadn't even thought of - thanks! Blair already has a bed that I...

Hi there! Insert generic intro thread title here.

Hi everyone, my name's Alicia.  I'm a couple of weeks from 22, and am a social work grad student living in Long Island, NY at the moment.  I'm currently living with my boyfriend James, our cat (his childhood pet) Blair, and three friends, one of which has a tortiseshell shorthair named Bella who...

Funny names or nicknames for your cat... Or re-renames! :)

My family's cat Toby is also called Neil, to be cried out in a high pitched, happy voice.  He always comes running! My childhood cat Big Guy was also known as Roger. Can't seem to remember why these names stuck!  They're certainly random. We've recently taken to calling Blair "shug" like...

    Cat with mournful moan

Blair is actually deaf, and calls out like this very often.  We have actually had friends come and think there was a baby wailing upstairs; nope, just Blair. We generally go and get her if she wails too much, as we know she can't hear us and she's in a new house. She's tricky though -...

    Tell me to be patient

You're right, 6 weeks isn't a long time in Catworld! I've experienced similar age/residential conflicts in my family's cats throughout my life, as friends have passed and we have rescued new ones. Territorial issues are common with cats, as I'm sure you know.  Do the cats have separate, easily...

Tips on cat climbing equipment build

Thanks for the suggestions - I didn't realize that those shelves could be installed at an angle and be stable - I'll have to look for more info on the restrictions of angles, as that's a really good point. Did you have difficulty finding studs to mount the shelves on to when putting them up at...

This has Grimalkin written ALL over it! (picture)

So cute!  Blair isn't very pushy, but the tuxedo cat Max at my parents' house has similar reactions to cereal bags too!

Tips on cat climbing equipment build

Hi there, I'm new here!  I would like to construct a cat tree or similar climber for our 13 year-old cat Blair.  She is relatively light-weight at about 8 lbs, and is what we've termed a tree-dweller, where she loves to perch whenever possible.   She recently relocated from her home of ~12...
