    Cat with mouth issues

I don't know about the specific stomatitis you mentioned but maybe some of this may help. My 18 y/o is my third cat that has stomatitis and I'm in a battle as what to do. She has had most of her teeth removed except the canines. It helped, but the stomatitis periodically flares up on her gums...

    Clindamycin dosage

I brought my old kitty to the Vet to have her mouth checked after seeing her pawing at it. She had a bit of redness in the back and was prescribed Clindamycin. I should add she has only her front fangs as the others have either fallen out or had removed. The dosage prescribed is .5ml twice a...

    Mirtazapine every 48 hours?

I guess the use of the word 'transdermal' was confusing. The .375 number is the actual amount of mirtazine contained in each .1 ml dose. My syringe says 37.5mg/1ml and contains 10 doses.  The Vet said that 48 hours is the 'new' thinking about this mystery drug. As long as she is eating, I'm happy.

Help!!! Need urgent help - cat with unknown problem!!!

I had a cat that developed seizures. A couple of times she lost control of her back legs for an hour or so. Sounds like you amay be re right about it being neurological. My Vet didn't sedate my cat when taking x-rays. Unless he is impossible, I would pursue  this to rule out anything visible to...

    Mirtazapine every 48 hours?

I just got a refill of mirtazapine transdermal for my old kitty. I was surprised to see the .375 mg dose is now every 48 hours rather than 72. I remember reading something about this 'new' approach and curious if any cat parents here know about this. I have a call in to my Vet. Thanks

Advice on food for old cat with no teeth

Hi all, My last old girl is now 17 and had surgery a few weeks ago to remove her remaining molars. She now only has her front canines and proudly displays them. I didn't think she would make it through the surgery and had to syringe feed her for about 2 weeks. Now, with the help of mirtazapine...

    Very sad - need support

I have not been on the forum for months tending to my sick 16 y/o cat. Today, after multiple Vet visits, x-rays showed that my baby has fluid around the lungs, tumors in the lungs, and possibly a tumor on the heart.  The Vet gave her a month at the longest. I was told the fluids can be drained...

    8-year-old cat with seizures

I remember when my girl had her first seizure - scared the hell out of me. There wasn't too much I could do other than make sure she did not bang into something and hurt herself. I learned over time that a high pitched sound, such as dropping keys on the floor, would set her off. She would...

    Mouth Issue/not eating much

It is possible that a tooth chip was left in the mouth and is causing irritation and swelling. Can you look in the mouth for redness or swelling? If he prefers kibble, this could cause him pain when he eats. Have you tried a smaller kibble? One of my cats lost most of her teeth and swallows the...

Still syringe feeding 2 weeks after cold - How long will this last?

My 14 y/o girl had a bad cold and stopped eating two weeks ago. The Vet checked her out then and said no infections. He prescribed Orbax for a week as a precaution. Because of her appetite loss, I have been syringe feeding her for two weeks now. Her symptoms have improved dramatically - very...

Moderators: Can a new 'Sticky' be started for syringe feeding?

Lots of postings lately for syringe feeding. Is there a way a sticky can be started with information, videos, etc on the subject?

    Syringe Feeding

The first few times can be an adventure for both parent and kitty. Both of us got used to it pretty quickly. Here is a video on TCS that shows how one does it.. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating Lots of websites and youtube videos if...

Runny nose, sneezing and now eye is tearing. Help

What did the Vet mean by her lungs not being terrific? It sounds like a cold or URI. Did you receive any antibiotics to administer at home?  If not, get in touch with the Vet as another visit may be needed. The discharge sounds like it may be an infection. My Vet had me using Chlortabs...

    Liver Failure :-(

If you can get someone to help you it may be easier. When you syringe feed him, make certain NOT to shoot the food to the back of his mouth. Instead, come in from the side and shoot 1 to 2 cc's at the roof of his mouth. Repeat when he has swallowed and seems ready for more - usually around 10...
