He's back home - the vet thinks it was an amonia overdose so the vet gave him some liquids & another dose of lactulose. I gave Izzy a little beef today mixed in with his low protein food at noon to get him to eat. That probably just pushed his amonia levels right over the edge. I guess I wont be...
My wife has already taken Izzy to the emerg, but I thought I would ask here. As a brief history note, Izzy had a liver shunt that was treated surgically in October - he is still on a low protien diet & lactulose though.
Most of today, Izzy was a little listeless & did not want to eat much at...
Good advice - I also make a point to get down to their level often. Sometimes I'll just lie on the floor & let come play around me, or play with them while on my knees.
As my wife says - they have me wrapped around their fingers

4 month old Izzy has a liver shunt, so we feed him a low protein diet. How much should we be feeding him & how often? I'm getting concerned that he is not growing
Just curious, Max (who passed away in March) loved to lick noses. My wife & I would wake up to Max licking a nose - nowhere else but the nose. Any others have cats with a nose fetish?
The saga continues....
As many of you may already know, Izzy has been diagnosed with a Liver Shunt. He is on a low protien canned food - Hills K/D.
CathyC uses Hills K/D & she definitely knows about Shunts, so for now I am following her reccomendation on food & feeding him Hills - my vet also...
Thanks Cathy - I've been thinking about neutering & how to handle it. I haven't spoken to my vet yet, but it sounds like the operation may not be a wise move
