He could have stomach sensitivity. My neighbors had to go through several types of cat food and quite a bit of vomiting before the vet prescribed a medicated cat food and a pill. Their kitty is quite healthy otherwise, and this food and medication help a lot.

I mentioned this in another post, but this might be helpful to you, too. Some shelters have clinic days where people can bring their animals for a check up. I would recommend checking to see if any shelters in the LA area do clinic days and if they treat animals for free.

Have you tried a large cage? Think something for a medium-sized dog. I had a cat that lost her nonsense when I tried to put her in a carrier, so I tried a large cage. I had to bait it with treats and a comfy blanket, but it worked. It was less confining and she had a good view from all angles...
Update: So the vet, who washed her hands of my cat and labeled her a puzzle, told me to go to a specialist.
The specialist, who was wonderful, did a CAT scan and nasal flush. He also sent out samples of her nasal passage to culture and see what the lab comes up with. He didn't find any tumors...
