    Slippery Elm Bark Question

Well I still haven't gotten mine to thicken LOL So, for now just mixing it with a bit of food and syringe feeding it to him since he's not eating well on his own. BUT he does look A LOT less miserable today - more alert, less lip smacking, etc. So I think it's already helping the nausea...

    Slippery Elm Bark Question

I tried making a syrup, both stove top and microwave, and failed miserably. Couldn't get it to thicken. LOL Cooking is NOT my strong point! I think I'm going to have to just mix it into his wet food with some water added.

    Slippery Elm Bark Question

Thanks! I figured it was only for oral meds but thought I'd double check. He is on a low dose of pred at the moment but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. He's been on it 10 days and no improvement yet :( Not sure if I should up his dose (he's on 3mg/day) or just wean him off since there's...

    Slippery Elm Bark Question

Hi there, I've read through some other threads on SEB and haven't really seen this addressed, so thought I'd ask. :) I know SEB can interfere with the absorption of other medications so should be given an hour or two apart from other meds....but is this only for other oral meds? Or ALL meds...

    This one's complicated

Awww poor guy. Yes, Elavil is amitriptyline so guess that's out. But there are other anxiety meds you could try. It's just like people - some drugs work great for some people and not at all for others. Like myself - one antidepressant I tried made me feel like a zombie but the one I'm on now...

    This one's complicated

Have you tried anti-anxiety medication? We have had awesome success with Elavil, both with one of our own cats and several cats from the rescue I work with. It can take up to 2 months to build up in their system and the dose may need adjusting, but I'd highly recommend it if you haven't tried it :)

Adverse reaction to appetite stimulant or something else?

Ok, so I was wrong about him getting 7.5mg....the bottle I was looking at was when he was prescribed it last fall and we ended up not needed it, so he HAS been getting 3.75mg. Still high according to some sites, but not nearly as bad. I was going to start at the 0.5mg dose of cypro but went...

Adverse reaction to appetite stimulant or something else?

Hi White Shadow! Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty familiar with Tanya's site, as Marble's brother Rye was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney failure 5 years ago. Her site was our Bible as we fought the disease for 6 months before losing him. I've tried all the tricks on the Persuading Your Cat to...

Adverse reaction to appetite stimulant or something else?

Our 16 year old male, Marble, has had a decreased appetite for the past few months. Some days he'll barely eat 1/4 can of food on his own so we've had to syringe feed him to make up for it. He was just diagnosed with pancreatitis. Our vet gave us buprenorphine, cerenia and mirtazapine. The...
