Trimming Nails - the bane of my cat's existence!

My cat also used to dislike having her paws touched, so I would clip her nails while she was sleeping. Then she started getting wise and slept with her paws tucked under her, so I had to find another way. Is there a treat your cat goes nuts over? I would pick a time when your cat is relaxed to...

DISCONTINUED: Most EVO....ALL Innova....ALL California Natural Cat Foods

My cat's not a picky eater, but she used to eat Innova (the red can though, not the pink). I think the closest ones are Dave's Pet Food and EVO 95%.

    Kitten makes everything smell?!

Once the glands get expressed, then the smell goes away. Whether it comes back or not depends on the cat. My cat has this issue every 6 months or so. It's been better since we switched her from dry food to wet food and started giving her a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin every day (based on the...

    Kitten makes everything smell?!

If there's no visible poop and you still get a foul smell coming from the kitten's bottom, then her anal glands might be full. My cat had the same issue when I first adopted her. If that's the issue, then you need to take her to a vet to get them expressed.

    Kitten smells like poop

I agree that it could be an anal gland issue. My cat has had it twice now - the first time was a few days after I brought her home (they were just full), and the second time they became impacted because I didn't take her to the vet fast enough. Both times she smelled stinky, and she licked her...

What's your cat food budget per month?

I'm averaging around $30-$35 per month for my only cat. She normally gets fed wet food twice a day, unless I'm traveling in which case she gets dry. To save money, I buy cases of the 13 oz cans from Chewy - usually Wellness, Dave's, and I recently added Holistic Select. For dry, she gets EVO...

Worst time and place your kittens and cats have jumped

A few weeks after we adopted our cat, she discovered the wonders of the kitchen counter and started exploring up there all the time. One day when she wanted to get down, she made the poor decision to jump onto the swing top of our (fortunately empty) trash can. She fell right in, got super...

Going away on a trip - how to help kitty adjust?

Sorry about the delay in replying. I went on my trip, and things got really busy after that. Yes, I found the petsitter through an agency. I decided to use her again for this last trip, because I couldn't find anyone else on such short notice. Also I thought I'd give the sitter a second chance...

    Rescued Declawed Cat Bites Me

He's beautiful! Also it's possible that his previous owners didn't leave him behind intentionally (although who knows for sure). Maybe he somehow got away as they were moving and they thought he was lost forever. About grooming, my short-hair cat also doesn't like brushing. She'll tolerate it...

Using a Pet Sitter with Canned Food--How Does This Work?

I've been feeding my cat the EVO cat/kitten wet food (now discontinued!), which comes in a 13.2 oz can. I tell the pet sitter to feed her 1/5 of a can per visit and mix it with a little bit of water. My cat gets her other meal from her automatic feeder. I fill it with kibble before I leave, and...

    Help!

Actually the fact that she never licks her butt is strange. For most cats, that's just part of their normal grooming routine. The only reason I know for a cat to never lick their behind is if it's too dirty (from diarrhea, poop sticking to their fur, etc). That happened to the longhaired cat of...

    Help!

It sounds like she's really scared, because she's not feeling well, and she's too dirty for herself to clean. I recommend wiping her down tonight rather than waiting until tomorrow. If you're worried about getting scratched, please put on some gloves and a long sleeve shirt. When my cat had...

    Help!

I agree with Dandila - I think the cat has some kind of medical issue that makes it painful for her to eliminate. That's probably why she's been pooping outside the litter box. The first time her anal glands were full, my cat meowed loudly outside the litter box and licked herself back there a...

    Sight problems?

Your cat may have some kind of vision problem, but the only way to know for sure is to bring her in for a vet visit. My cat also squints in the morning when I open the blinds but only for a few seconds. She's also not great at finding food on my hand. I frequently offer her a treat in the...

What is your dental routine for your cat?

I brush my cat's teeth about once a week. I could get away with doing it more often, because she actually loves it! I use this CET kit. It came with the poultry toothpaste, a finger brush, and a regular toothbrush. The toothpaste doesn't really smell like chicken to me, but the cat loves the...
