I may have a latex allergy. I volunteer in a non-profit's kitchen twice a month. Part of my job is to wash dishes. I've been using latex dish washing gloves with no issues for over three years. Almost six weeks ago, I broke out in a very bad rash on my hands and forearms--where the gloves make contact on the upper side, but not the underside of my arms nor my palms. It looked far worse than it felt. It's mostly gone now, without any meds. If you have a latex allergy, be aware that nitrile gloves sometimes have a warning about not using them if you have a latex allergy. I just bought some, the same brand I've used for years, and just noticed it. However, I used a pair while I had this allergy (not knowing about the warning), with no problems.

Not that I'm aware of. I may be allergic to dust since I always have skin reactions when I do a deep clean, but I've never been tested.

Yes.
I'm highly allergic to stupid people.
Come on, I can't believe no one has said that yet ;)
You beat me to it. I am also allergic to people who don't like cats. They make me break out in annoyance.

I tell people that I am allergic to bananas. I detest them. Simply saying you don't like them just makes them say, "that's just because you haven't had MY banana bread or MY banana pudding" and so on.. No. No I haven't and that's because I really hate bananas.

:banana2: HEY! Who invited YOU? STOP mocking me! :running:

Alcohol gives me a migraine headache. When I had outpatient surgery years ago, the doctor gave me some Opioids. After taking a few, I was itching all over. The doctor said I was allergic and I should switch to Motrin. I hated the Opioids anyway, as I can't stand the way they make me feel and they gave me the worst dreams.:(

The vast majority of metals used in piercings. The piercing will swell, bleed, fill with puss, and once a chunk of the inside of the piercing came out with the ring.

I may or may not have some kind of food allergy. I get severe nausea/chills after eating fairly often. Hopefully, a doctor can figure it out.

My only allergy is to sulfonamides/sulfa antibacterial used to treat bladder infections. That stuff wrecked my blood and I had a three night hospital stay as a result of taking it.

I was reading a book where the main character was asked what her allergies were and she said she was allergic to peanuts and Trump. I swear.

Anyway, I'm allergic to every OTC pain reliever known to man. I haven't had an Advil or Tylenol or even a baby aspirin now in quite a few years. Had to change my BP meds because of the same allergy. There's some ingredient in everything somewhere along the line that causes my face to swell: sometimes it's my lip, sometimes it's my cheek, sometimes it's the area right below the corner of my lip. I've been to two allergists and they both say it's too expensive to figure out just what the allergy is and just don't take any OTC pain meds. Easier said than done, I might add. When I get a migraine, I either just work through it or if it gets too bad, I go to bed. I've often said there were times when I would sell my soul for just two Advil tablets. And I do carry an Epi-Pen.

I think it is mean spirited to call people stupid and dumb. I've been called stupid and dumb all my life. It hurts.
You're right; of course, and I never call people dumb in public or to their faces. But, well, we're talking about allergies here, so let me tell you more about my Neosporin allergy. I had used Neosporin for years with no problems, but a few years ago when I put some on a small wound I had an immediate allergic reaction - an itchy red rash. It was obvious that I'd developed an allergy to the Neosporin. So, I did the obvious thing - I used soap and water and washed the Neosporin off. Duh. And, yes, the rash went away when I did that, confirming my self diagnosis.

Anyway, I was telling my mother about it later. Mom had been a physical therapist for many years, and was an excellent observer of human nature - she understood how people react to this kind of "injury" - and she said, "You'd be surprised how many people would never think of using soap and water to remove the allergen." I believe her. Even though that seems obvious to me, I'm sure there are many people to whom it isn't obvious, and no blame to them. But what really floored me was when she went on to say, "You'd be even more surprised by the number of people who did think of washing it off but then never did it!" Again, I believe her. And I was very surprised by it, because to me this does seem dumb. Not "dumb" as in having a low I.Q., but "dumb" as in having no common sense, which is a good deal more worrisome than a low I.Q..

As have I. But at some point I shook it off, because I knew they were wrong.
Sometimes smart people do dumb or stupid thing. It doesn't make them dumb or stupid.
My post was aimed at people who know they're doing something wrong ("lets dump our old cat and get a new kitten!") but don't care. They may be smart, but they're doing something dumb and acting stupid. Huge difference.

I have seasonal allergies- usually in the fall and in the spring whenever the weather really starts to change, either gets warmer or gets colder. Also sulfa. I guess thats an ingredient in some medication. I'm allergic to that. I take Zyrtec everyday otherwise I'll sneeze and have a runny nose, but I don't know what else I'm allergic to.

Sorry. I would have removed the my post but I didn't know how. I am just over sensitive when it comes to talking about people being dumb. My grandmother was a little slow and I take after her.
No need to apologize.
FWIW I've read your posts for a long time and I think you're very caring, intuitive and have a lot of common sense =)

Anyone who works in retail knows that at least half of the customers are terribly stupid :D. And I don't mean low-IQ, because those who know they aren't intellectuals usually are more pleasant. No, I mean those customers who will argue for an hour and a half that Easter Seals are legal stamps. Or that 50% off $10 means the item costs $3, and they'll scream and pitch a fit if you won't give it to them at that price. You start to hope that those people's personalities aren't really like that, that maybe their brains just fall out when they go shopping, but probably not. . .

But I can see why calling those people stupid or dumb could be triggering for some. It's too bad that Americans have stigmatized learning disabilities and use the same words for that and for those customers who yell at you because the tomato soup has tomatoes in it :rolleyes2:.

Sorry. I would have removed the my post but I didn't know how.
You don't know how because there's no way to do so. If you've posted something you don't like then you have two options:
  • During the first hour after you've posted you can edit the post, changing it to something you're more comfortable with. (This is true for members at the Top Cat level; the time limit is different for members at other levels.)
  • You can flag your post, and in the Comment box explain that you regret posting it and wish it to be removed. A moderator tends to show up and take care of things almost immediately whenever something is flagged.
