What do you think of it? I just ordered free samples of zero mature and zero mature limited ingredient. My 17 nfc mix has hcm, crd, ibd, asthma, maybe interstitial cystitis and she had fatty liver jaundice etc. She is on pimobendan, lasix, clopidogrel, pepcid, demarin, ursodiol and cyproheptidine. She has 3 water fountains and drinks and pees a lot due to lasix so im worried about dry food etc. Should I add water? She was on orijens cat and kittens for years and scraps, now she is on any wet food she will eat, she is super fussy and changes wet food every few days now. She was in chf 2x since December and was on sub q fluid but now th cardiologist said no more fluid. Her creatinine went from 2.9 to 3.8 on lasix so I hope this food can reduce that and not dehydrate her. Someone on a fb forum said this food rduced her crd cats c from 2’s to 1’s. I also have a 22 month old siamese boy, he is on fussie cat low sodium that Syb has now rejected as well as a pole caught tuna canned food from WF. I just read though that both these foods are made in Thaialand and im worried about the source now. They both eta cooked meat scraps as well. Thanks!

You can edit your post. Under your text, on the left side, there should be a tiny pencil and "Edit."

That's about all the help I can give, sorry! I've never used Young Again, though I have looked into it and wish I could afford it.

I have never used young again either, thought about it, but went with Dr. Elseys, chicken. I like it and so do the cats, so now im afraid to try something else and mess stuff up :)

you can add water to dry food, if she will eat it, mine will not. However it can cause bacteria to grow quickly. so what she does not eat toss in 20 min or so.

I think wet food would be good? i feed some weruva, but lately Tiki cat has been the favorite at my house. I would not worry about food made in Thailand, i think its a safe as food made anywhere else. You might also look at Almo nature. i get it from chewy, its a bit hard to find. My cats like it, they do have some supplemental foods so make sure which one you look at. my guys like the chicken and green beans, and the salmon with apple. their foods are low fat and low carb, and not high calorie, so you have to make sure you are feeding enough. They have a complete line, and the La cucina line in the pouches is complete too.

I dont know about the medications she is on, so i cant comment to that.

Best of luck, and keep us updated.

Hi, and Welcome!

You won't have edit capability until you've posted a certain number of posts (I don't know the number). It's a site rule because there was a time when too many educational posts were being deleted because the original poster didn't like the feedback they were getting.

My Big Guy sometimes will eat moistened kibble, I think for your situation what with stopping the subq, try this and see.

Here’s how to do a skin turgor test for dehydration on your cat:
  • gently pinch some skin on the back of the neck/shoulder area.
    • If the skin stays up and does not go down, your cat is so severely dehydrated you have to get to a veterinarian urgently.
    • If the skin takes a second or two to go down, you have to go to the vet’s because of moderate to severe dehydration.
    • If your cat’s skin snaps back in place, you annoyed your cat with the test
Regarding Thailand's plants, surrounding waters and your baby meezers food, I don't know if the fussie cat has fish in the ingredients, but maybe find a couple different wet foods. My concern is the polluted waters, not so much the food production plants. A variety of foods for him will help decrease his exposure to contaminated fish and other bad additives.

Thanks, I want to try this to see if it can lower her creatinine and help with her crd but without further dehydrating her. I’ll check out those other foods too. Lasix is a diauretic given to force excretion of fluids so fluid doesnt build up in the lungs or other areas so it often causes dehydration and eventuall kidney damage. 20 minutes seems very fast for bacteria build up though? I leave food out overnight for her and my little guy with no problems.

I'm aware of that test for dehydration, although sometimes it’s not clear. She was also just at the dvm where she had increased creatinine and almost low potassium so dvm said she is dehydrated but we cant give any fluid. I’m hoping this food wiil help even though it’s dry, the owner said it has helped urine concentration in cats making specific gravity lower which my dvm said is good. I was confused by that but he said it’s good not bad. Part of the idea with this food is that having no plant or starchy carbs actually allows them to conserve water.

I’m giving him fc chicken and chicken liver in pumpkin soup and chicken and beef in pumpkin soup so no fish in that, so I guess it’s ok maybe. That was the only grain free low sodium wet food I could find. The other one of course has fish, for some reason I thought it was wild caught but it’s not. It seems like every food has something wrong and nine of them tell you on the label about the important things like sodium, phosphorous, carbs etc.

I’m familiar with most of those sites, I will check out the ones I don't recognize. I tried raw for my Wizard (ibd)and Syb, but he vomited more on it and she wouldn’t touch it so then I went to home cooked and added supplements but I was worried about the supplements. Is there a supplement pack that has everything? I may want to try home cooked again. I was giving my boy Natures Variety raw bites in addition to his wet food but they stopped making it. I wont do raw again myself. I tried rad cat too after making my own raw a few years back and a lot went bad because you have to thaw a large amount.

You could look at Ziwi peak (all ingredients from NZ) for wet food...but its very expensive. They also have dry food. Sorry if i cant help more but i cant understand the exact problem with all this creatinine talk

I leave dry out all the time. and wet i would have no problem with overnight either. Everything i have read indicates that with dry food once it is wet 20 or 30 minutes is the max you want to leave it out. IDK, but as that is what i have always been told, i would error on the side of caution if i wet a dry food. I have tried it, and my guys act like i am trying to poison them anyway :( so not an issue for me. Cats

I had the same issue with Radcat, I wanted it to work and even partially thawed a tub (just enough so I could "hacksaw" through it LOL) and put small quantities into little plastic containers and put those in the freezer. But, the Big Guy didn't really like it, so that was that.

In any case, to answer your question, there's Alnutrin and also Ezcomplete. Here's a September 2017 thread that discusses both;

Thanks Everyone, my Syb passsed away from a saddle thrombus sat May 12. I’m devastated. Im going to try my other kitty on young again because he liked it. Syb liked it too but she only drank the water, I put some warm water in it. I think she would have liked it as a dry food if she hadn't had all of her health issues. I still keep wondering if she could have survived the clot but the doctor said she would not survive the night because her heart was so weak there was no bp in all of her legs, not just the back ones which were paralyzed from the embolism. Im in such a shock. I cant believe shes not here anymore. She was with me for 17 years.

Wow ex complete is WAY too expensive. Is ther eanither one I can use with boneless meat? Is alnutrin ok for that or do I need to add liver too? My youn* kit dies not like liver. He leaves the liver pieces in his fussie cat.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your baby passing!!
I'm not familiar with raw feeding and the supplements, but have you looked at catinfo.org? Plus there are some Articles with nutritional info here on the site as well.

Thanks. Found some to add and will post back later. Unfortunately Quinn has bad runs again after eating the young again zero mature. I hope I can return it, it was very expensive. I had to put him on flagyl again. Usually after the second dose it goes away, but this is bad because its going to liquid fast. Im scared to switch him to anything now. Even the raw uncooked or whatever cooked home cooked with the supplements. I do give him meat scraps but the only cat food he seems to be able to eat now is fussy cat or Pole caught tuna that I got at Whole Foods. When he was a kitten he ate the same food as civil which was Serena beyond grain free, the pull cord tuna and scraps and he did not get Seiyu Rita I just don’t know what is going on with him now I’m getting so fed up with us. He also ate the instinct raw frozen bites and he likes them although he preferred the cooked food. Almost no diarrhea then except once when he was a kitten but that was probably from a parasite. I am so exhausted and overwhelmed from everything and I cannot deal with the cat having diarrhea like this at least the Flagyl works. I have never had this problem with any of my cats they hardly ever had Zyria at all and I just ate a bunch of different foods with no problems.

high quality foods for the most part.I really thought what was causing his diarrhea was that he was getting Syb’s food, after she had liver failure she had to eat whatever food she would eat which was nine lives or whatever. He would sneak in and get her food. But now young again is giving him diarrhea too. I did read on their blog that someone else’s cat also got bad diarrhea from two of their foods. They claim it’s because the cat is over eating but I find that really hard to believe because Quinn hardly ate any of it and he got diarrhea right away.

Alnutrin can be used with boneless meat but does need liver added. In my experience, if you grind or puree the liver and meat then mix them together the cat doesn't notice the liver. My cat will not eat chunks of liver but she eats ground raw and liver just fine. Alnutrin offers a sample packet so you can try it out before buying a bag.

I did that for wiz and syb but they hated the liver even though ground/chopped it in my food processor. I guess i can try it. Tc feline has one that has dry liver added so i winder id that is better. But it says it’s for raw meat, do you know if i can use it with cooked meat as well? I guess i will try the sample of alnutrin too and see if he likes it. He just got very bad diarrhea from young again zero mature so I sent it back and he is on flagyl again. It cost $15 to send back, wish I had not purchased it. I have amazon prime and get free shipping back for most things but they dont sell it there.

Then I found a post where several people said that food gave their cats bad diarrhea even when they followed the crazy feeding instructions to feed a dish of that with 2 cups immediately and none of their other food, and they had tried it for a while. I just feel I cant trust for sure what is in the food anymore. And Dr Pierson says dry food has tons of bacteria, fungi and maybe other toxins etc.

I feed Dr. Elseys dry, if you ever decide to try it Chewy has a smaller 2 lb bag, and they are awesome about refunds.

I dont ever put out that much dry at one time, i worry about bacteria as well, and i have one cat that slobbers on the food when he eats..lol. I usually do 2 or 3 different paper plates around the house, with about 1/3 cup of dry in each plate. when they empty it i throw away and put out clean plates, normally once a day. I feed dry in areas such as a spare bedroom, where they dont normally hang out, they must specifically go to eat. I dont put it in their normal path, where they just walk by, see it and say hey lets eat :) I do put water fountains and water bowls in their path, i want them to walk by, see water, and drink :)

I think young again has guar gum in their dry food? Guar gum can help a cat that is constipated, but it can also cause diarrhea in a cat that is sensitive to it.

Thanks I checked and young again does have guar gum so I wonder if that was causing his runs, it is odd that he didnt seem to get diarrhea from the samples for Syb. I gave him tiny amounts but he did get d just at the time she passed and was on flagyl so maybe that stopped it. I checked fussie cat and it doesn’t have guar gum, it has xanthan gum and tapioca starch, do you know if they cause runs? They dont seem to in him. I don’t know why any of this has to be added really. I guess if I make home cooked it will just be the supplements, I hope they dont have any of these additives ro anything that gives him runs.

I will check out dr Elseys, I think I’m going to stick with wet food though since it is thought to be better than dry for their kidneys and digestive tract etc., plus dr P said the bacteria etc is already in it, not from leaving it out. Ive lost faith in ya company because they state that soft poop is normal which is not true and seem to fail to realize that something in their ingredients or quality is causing this.

They had such rave reviews and the study in lowering urine specific gravity was very impressive so I thought it could help Syb and Quinn loved it, he has not liked any dry food, not the bag his breeder gave me, he wouldn't touch it, lol. He has occasionally stolen tiny bits of the kirkland premium I give my outdoor colony, but he was not crazy about it like he was about ya. That is good you do that with the paper plates etc, I use them for the outdoor cats and for syb quinn for their scraps etc. We have 3 fountains, I got the first one for Syb about 2 years ago after Wiz passed on recommendation from her then dvm due to concentrated urine and she absolutely loved it I wish I had tried them again sooner. I tried the first plastic ones that came out but they got moldy. Then I added one more when we got Quinn and another in her room when she was lasix. I’m not sure when we will get another kitty, my family wants one butnI’m not ready for sure. I miss her so much and I’m exhausted from everything.
