good afternoon!

it's been really very cold here recently!
i don't enjoy the cold, not one bit. mostly, i stay near the wood burning stove or cook/bake in the kitchen -- near warmth. and every night i'm tucked in under layers of blankets, a comforter, and on the heated mattress pad.

on the bright side, my cats are snuggling with me during the day and at night much more during the cold weather...

for today's Question of the Day, let's do a poll --

(see above, for the poll)  you can choose more than one of the choices, or feel free to post your ideal climate/area.

i'll start!

i'd definitely choose some where in the middle! i'd be happy to never have it snow, but i also don't want it 'hot as hades' during the summer months.

how about you?

Snow actually means it's warmer! It won't snow if it gets too cold :cold:.

I like to have 4 distinct seasons, and I don't even mind some snow. What I don't like is the extreme temperatures. Below 10 degrees or above 95 degrees. No thanks! But of course we get both extremes here :/. Bleh.

And, ugh, I hate humidity. I couldn't live somewhere that's humid all year. I do not like the tropics. If I moved somewhere that's warm all year it would have to be a dry climate.

I like having 4 distinct seasons.  I don't like extremes either, brutal cold that is impossible to stay outside in or extreme heat and humidity.  I actually don't mind snow it's the extreme cold that often follows a snow that gets to me.

While I enjoy all 4 seasons, autumn is really stunning but the older I get the more I'd prefer not to living somewhere that when it snows there's the chance of blizzards. So, NJ, where we are and have been like forever, is a big no for retirement LOL

On the other hand I really hate hot humid summers and finding somewhere that isn't overly frigid usually means going somewhere that I don't enjoy much either.  Like, I can't see going back to Florida (we both lived there for some years while younger - him in the Panhandle and me southeast).

I would love to find somewhere more moderate. I'm about 10 years plus/minus to retirement so I'm already doing research and weather is a huge consideration.

I lived in the Seattle/Tacoma Washington area many years ago.  If you don't mind a lot of rainy days in the winter and spring it has a very moderate climate year around but still has seasonal changes.

I'm a snow baby.  I spent my very young years in Anchorage, AK, and would love to be able to afford to go back there.   I have no problem with snow whatsoever and do NOT do well in heat.  Actually, if I could pick my ideal climate, this would be it:  For most of the year, the temperature during the day would hover in the LOW 70s.  On the day before Thanksgiving, the temperature would drop, and a gentle, steady snow would begin to fall.  There would be 6-8 inches of snow accumulating between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day when the temperatures would climb into the low 70s again.  Look, anything you do outside when it is 95 degrees out, you can do just as well when it is 73 degrees out, AND without drowning in your own sweat!  I know that climate doesn't exist, but I can dream, right?

yes, humidity can be very uncomfortable.

no problem at all!
   it's just for fun.

yes!!! i totally agree!

i really like 4 distinct seasons, but this year i'm just completely 'over' snow, ice, and cold -- extreme, or just normal winter cold. so i've just changed to the category of 'chilly sometimes, but won't ever snow' and 'won't get hot as hades either'.

yes, those extremes...of heat and humidity, or of brutal cold......they can 'get you' coming and going, kind of thing!

yes, 'somewhere more moderate'!!!
the extreme heat and humidity can be just as undesirable as the extreme cold and snow/blizzards! this is where i'm at, as of this year.

Yikes, I could not bear 10 degrees. 95 is tough too. My ideal is a low of 65 & a high of 90. Somewhere in the world is a place like that.
For me, anywhere from the mid-50's to mid 70's is my sweet spot.

I start fading rapidly once temperatures hit into the 80's.  I do better in cold weather, but once it's getting into the low 30's and below, not so much anymore.

DH and I visited the Outer Banks (North Carolina) a few years ago in May.  It was gorgeous!  It made me think; I'd like it if I could move with the seasons like the birds do.  I'd go for somewhere like the OBX for spring, summer would be in the Adirondack Mountains into early fall so I could see the color, then I'd head down south somewhere. Probably the Smokies.  Then for winter; Key West!

NO. SNOW. EVER. Snow is the root of all evil.

I can deal with chilly. I deal with hot. I can NOT deal with snow and all the misery that comes with it. I'm waiting for my Powerball ticket to pay off. The cats and I are moving to a private island in the Bahamas. We will name it the Island of Misfit Kats.

We will provide sanctuary to homeless and feral cats from the Caribbean region.

Definitely somewhere warm all year round, ideally dry rather than humid heat for the most part.

I can't handle cold weather at all :cold::cringe::uuh: I just don't function outside during the colder months here.

I am just so over the increasing heat and humidity here that anything that provides some relief is fine by me.
