Exactly!
Not now but when Artie is better, I'm going for the best outcome, you may want to consider filing a complaint with your SVB because refusing to let you see Arties veterinary records of which his x-ray is a part of and not itemizing your bill. I am curious if you are getting an estimate before procedures are done. You also need to find your states veterinary guidelines and read them. Vets are not allowed to pad the bill with unneeded tests or to simply keep stringing an owner along to collect more money. It's legally more complex than that but nothing a lay person cant' figure out on their own. In all 50 states there are laws regarding the release of vet records.

The VCA we use and even the smaller clinic that done our kits spays last week gave us a very detailed printout of the cost, high and low with the prices clearly stated that we signed. If Arties x-rays are digital the vet should be able to copy it for you at reasonable cost just like they can charge a fee to hand you ALL of arties records. Make it clear you want the complete file not just a summary. Please take @LTS3  up on their offer and have that vet request Arties records and just take care of him for now.

Oh, Darlin.  I'm so glad that there is the hope of a new, more responsive vet on the horizon!  Who knows what fresh eyes might discern?

Look, the next time you are so down, PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL ME!  You know I'm up till all hours, and I have nothing pressing on my schedule other than doling out the Temptations just often enough to avert a mutiny.   I am very serious about this.  I am here.

For now:

I went out looking for a different food for Artie.. He ate some Natures Recipe Beef, Buffalo and Venison this morning. I got more of it.. gave him some, and NO, he wants his Pride Rabbit.. sigh...

I did not want to give him the Natures Balance unless I really had to, but, he was going after all the plastic in the house, wires, etc...

When I got home, hands full with a big from Trader Joe's, there was a message on my answering machine. It was from the

S Vet Hospital-- mind you, this is a big place. It was from the Customer Service Manager Re:miscommunications from this week-end. She read through all the notes, which everyone wrote, and wants to go over things with me, if I would care to.

She said she is in today, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I have to focus.. I think I need to at least see what she has to say. I will do my utmost not to get upset, either tears or raising voice, but I tend to do that when I get upset..knowing I have a back-up from @LTS3  really helps. But I want to find out what kind of excuses she will give me.. I still need to get Artie's reports from them..

Right now, it is 2:30pm, I am in my pj's with some classical music in the background.. Artie is still waiting for his Pride Rabbit. He is addicted to it.. seriously...he really loves it..

Unfortunately the Natures Balance has peas in it.. he hates peas.. but the fiber could help him...

He did poop this morning. About a 4 inch piece nice and soft.

Yes, I am getting a good feel for his meds, and what he needs.. I just need the S Vet, at this point to order meds, and to do enemas..she certainly is not helping in any other way.. and some guidance with food.. and to make sure he is getting the appropriate things at the correct time. I check in with them constantly. Perhaps they are thinking I am micromanaging his care. I am "sorry" for them if they do, but Artie is my responsibility. I live with him. When I ask for advice, I get the : "Well your home with him; you see how he reacts" Yes, I actually got that once..

Yet, I see the S Vet with other clients, patients... she actually smiles at them. and shows some feelings...but not with me.. I guess it is just a personality conflict--- maybe it is me.. being too forceful when I came in. I thought it would help with me explaining I have worked in the medical field so some things come easy in explanation to me..that my Vet, who I loved, was a classmate of hers, that I do belong to a cat forum and we all exchange ideas and thoughts, so I am not unknowledgeable-- perhaps she thought I was questioning her from the beginning?? or was it because I questioned things... the questions she asked needed straight answers.. I got confused, so I started charting.. I brought my calendars in.. she could not understand them.. when she asked how many days a week he was pooping, I pulled out that calendar and showed her..

As far as a 'Spa Day'... oh, I would love a massage, but it is too expensive right now. I think I would fall asleep on the massage table. and slide home.. There is a nice salon near my house, but it is too expensive. I guess there is always massage therapy chain, but they are not cheap. I need at least a 45 minute massage.. 30 minutes would go by too fast.

just overtired, so I am rambling... Artie did eat some, he peed, and now he is back in his stinky quilt/tent....that gets washed tomorrow. My clothes from yesterday are washing now...

thanks again..to all..

They did give me an estimate before the endoscopy.. it was itemized. I think that unless I request an itemized list from each visit, it is automatically not printed up..

As far as the x-rays, the S Vet was in too much of a hurry, and the radiologist was delaying in sending it!! I mean digital, on a computer in their system??? I did not push it. The S Vet said it showed nothing but gas.. She said she could not read it, so it would not be any sense for her to try to explain it to me... Duh!!

I think that is part of the issue, they over book patients, to make money and do not allow for any urgent patients. they let the techs handle 'routine' urgent things with the S Vet supervising.. as far as I am concerned, the techs have too much control in that place. At least from what I experienced on Friday and Saturday. They had too much say in what the S Vet was doing.. a flat out NO.. is not want I want to hear when I request a Vet...and that NO is from a Tech...

I was a 'Tech".. if I ever did that to a human, I would be fired on the spot...

I know the techs are very experienced and knowledge, but this went too far...

Because of what happened to Kitten we use a VCA hospital and have as our regular vet the head of the small animal dept. and a feline expert. We are paying extra there for the time and expertise with each visit. Mercy had her ER visit over random growling. Blood work , everything showed nothing but they still listened and did not dismiss my obvious concern over her odd behavior. With a chronic condition pet owners become part of the vets team for treatment. You need to find a better vet that communicates with you because all this stress is not good for you and it feeds straight into Artie. My heart aches for you and Artie because you should not be treated this way and neither should he.

I take our cats to a little country vet out here and they itemize everything for me.  I mean, they hand write it, but they write down everything and how much each thing costs.  Granted, I've never taken them for anything big.  Just neutering and routine shots/wormer/ear mite meds/flea treatments.  But still.  If the vet clinic is big enough for an x-ray machine, they'll have computerized records that they can just print out.

OK, I've been looking at some freeze dried raw food options, and just wanted to let you know that many of them also contain that Montmorillonite Clay.  WHY do you think that's the issue?  Of course, you know Artie like no other, but I'm just curious.  Many cat foods contain this ingredient, and from what I can tell, it's actually been used for years in holistic medicine as a healing "medicine", both internally and externally, and if many raw foods contain it as well, I'm wondering how it can be so bad?  I see that ALL Nature's Variety foods contain it, canned and raw, Primal frozen AND freeze-dried raw contains it as well.

Stella and Chewy's doesn't have Rabbit in CAT raw food, but they supplement their DOG raw food with taurine, so it can be fed to cats.  I use their dog freeze dried  lamb for treats for my furkids.

If you shop at a place like Pet Choice or Pet Club (a smaller place than a big box store like Petsmart, they will normally let you bring back a bag of frozen or freeze dried raw for your money back if your cat doesn't like it.  I can't tell you how many times I have actually done that.  As long as the bag is half full AND you do it within a two week period.  Just ask what their return policy is.  It might be worth trying.  The problem is, trying to get a picky eater to eat raw isn't always easy.  You need to mix it in with their existing food (usually) slowly to gt them to eat it.  Or roll it in FortiFlora or powdered WholeLife protein or something.  I had to meke tiny little meatballs and roll each one into powdered WholeLife chicken (which wouldn't work for Artie)  to get mine started eating thawed raw.  They do love the freeze dried however, as long as I don't rehydrate it.  I just make sure  I give them PLENTY of water added to their canned food now when I dish up their meals.

OH,and if you decide to go with raw, remember this can be either frozen or freeze dried.  If freeze dried, you can order from Chewy.com and save a bundle once you figure out if Artie likes it.

No matter where you go you and your pet should be treated with respect and professional courtesy and all veterinarians are subject to the rules set forth by their SVB which is given that authority by the respective states. All that said it sounds like it would be best for Arties mom to transfer his records to the vet @LTS3  suggested and stop spinning her wheels. Which sounds like the least stressful solution for everyone on a long term basis.

Thanks for helping me @mrsgreenjeens    I just came back from PetCo and PetLife.. got a few cans of different food.. Artie seems not to like any other rabbit product except for the Pride Rabbit. There is something in this food that he loves, and the others do not.. it has spinach?? I have to look at the rest of the ingredients.. He turns his nose up at other rabbit foods...

I am thinking of switching him to a different novel protein, but I need guidance with that.

I am feeling that the 'clay' which is in all the Nature's Variety product line, is great for cats with IBD and Diarrhea and very good for normal cats.. with Artie and his motility issues, I think it is aiding to the constipation. It is like concrete.. I saw a piece of poop which came out when he had his fist enema. I was not poop colored. It looked like dry cream colored clay. If you look up the specific clay that Natures Variety uses, it is the same color...

I also saw a couple of other people on the MegaColon FaceBook Page, have had issues with NV line of food and their IBD cats. Once they switched foods, it was easier to manage the MegaColon.

I am really afraid of raw... Artie free feeds all day and night. I could never leave it out --it would spoil.. I was told he was a free feeder when I adopted him..so canned or homemade(yikes) is the way I have to go..

I also have a small freezer. I rent my apartment and this is what came with it.. I have no control and really cannot afford to buy a larger refrigerator or an additional small separate freezer. I am really trying to economize, somehow...but it never happens...

***********************************************************************************

Just spent 30 minutes talking with the customer service manager from the Vet hospital. They are a big place and part of a huge chain of hospitals around the country... not saying anymore to identify it.

I was calm, composed, and very nice..

I asked her what her understanding of what transpired yesterday was.. she briefly told me some.. I then went into detail.. stopping at certain points to clarify and overstate the impact of what I was saying. She apologized profusely, agreed that I was in the middle of a ton of miscommunication.. wanted to know what they can do to make things better for me and Artie.. also wanted to know what would I do if there was an emergency and the S Vet was not there....

right... they are afraid of losing business and getting a bad rap.....

I told her that I had many years as working in a small Major Boston Hospital Perinatal Center dealing with Problem Pregnancies. If I had done anything as to what transpired with me yesterday, I would be fired on the spot! I told her that I was trying to see both sides, and be fair, but I did not understand the lack of communication and different stories I kept getting throughout the day. I told her that the Techs were acting as 'TRIAGE" for the Vet. When I am told from the techs that the Vet will not speak --that the tech will speak to me instead, or is unavailable.. then I get angry, frustrated and upset.. I said that I could never, ever do that to a human patient, why should animals be different? I also said that the Vet was too busy--overbooked to provide adequate care for any urgent appointments-- that it seemed as if it was delegated to the Techs to handle these things...

I also said I understand, from my own experiences how it is to be short staffed, have people out, and still have to accommodate urgent patients..

Replied that if there were an emergency, I would still go through the proper channels and if my S Vet was not available, I would then take Artie to see whoever was, so that he could get 'proper' care. (yes the schmoosh on my part)

I also told her that there was nothing I could think of that would make yesterday better. I was too brain dead, exhausted from the entire episodes..She offered to refund/credit me the entire cost of yesterday!! I did not jump for joy, I was calm and thanked her.. She then wanted to keep it as a 'credit on my account'.. I asked if it would be possible to just get the refund on my credit card...   they are afraid...of losing a client...HA

So the bottom line is: I got a refund on my credit card (CareCredit) and pretty much an apology...and told to deal with the Mangers if any other problems arise.... so not bad...

a small victory, and Artie is eating.. the new food. We will see what happens..

Artie is so sweet, he just went back over to eat, looked at me.. licked his chops, when I asked if it was 'good".. now he is washing up...sweet, sweet boy...

He was so good for his sub-q's..he had to poop, yet held it in until I finished...

enough for now.. I need to decompress a bit...

It sounds like the talk with management went well and there is nothing that says "we goofed" like a full refund on your credit card!   I'm still in favor of you investigating other options but this is definitely a good sign.  [emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127808[/emoji]

Enjoy your decompression time.  You have more than earned it!

Oh Yeah!!! In the works, thanks to LTS3.....yup,,,,, I am going, going, gone.... hopefully....just stringing them along for what I can do.....have been in the Medical Field too long, not to know the ropes.....Since I graduated high school.. ,,,and 33 years in a sub-speciality... I know what transpires behind the scene when it comes to patients and complaints...oh yeah... been there, done that....I am just in my angry phase because there may be a way out...still not turning bridges, yet....

That is good news that you got a refund on your care credit.
(Lord knows, I know how high that interest is from Angels racked up bills, just from cyctitis episodes! & Flow up ultrasounds, etc...) Along w/ 2 unexpected dentals on there for me, I'm still paying it!
I'm glad you communicated all of that to the person at the vets.
It's also good to hear Artie at least liked one new food so far.[emoji]128077[/emoji]

Yes, take some well deserved down time for yourself!
Like I said, if you were here, I'd give you an hour on my table for free!! (& I've been doing it for over 20 yrs!)
If there are any massage schools near you, they are much more affordable. There's one here that a student massage is only $25.00, & $35.00 w/ a newly licenced one.
You never know if it will be a good one, but it would be something anyway! ;)

I am glad you were able to get a refund and that Artie tried his new food. I was wondering if we can help you find a food that Artie would like. Maybe if you listed what his food allergies are and listed the food you tried we can help. Maybe a thread called help me find a food for Artie where we can keep a running list of everything you tried.

I recall you saying he had allergies to chicken. I spoke to my vet about food allergies and she said that if a cat is allergic to chicken, which many are; that there is a good chance that duck, turkey or goose wouldn't be a problem. That might open up the door to more options for you

I just want your sweet boy to be better.

That's wonderful news about the refund! And Artie's eating! I am so happy for you. I think too that it's the food that is causing all this stress. You need that cocktail now to relax.

Mingo isn't allergic to chicken, but he doesn't like it much. Zed Xyzed is right; Mingo loves the turkey, and especially turkey with giblets, so it must be something different.

To ease your concerns about the techs, if they are actual registered or listened vet techs, then you shouldn't be worried about them caring for and making decisions for artie. Registered techs do go to school for what they do and are highly trained and highly skilled. I am a vet tech student right now and I can assure you that we learn basically everything the veterinarian learns, it is all just compressed into less years than the vets have. The only thing we don't Learn is actual surgery. All other knowledge and skills that vets have, we are also highly trained in those areas.I am not trying to say this as an ego thing. I didn't realize it either until I went to school for it. Many people believe that vet techs are like human nurses, but for animals. That is simply not the case. Vet techs have much more knowledge and skills.in humans anesthesia, radiology and other things are all individual carreers that a regular nurse is not trained in, in vet medicine techs are trained in all of those areas. So I can understand how this would not be acceptable in a human situation, and I understand your frustration at not dealing with the doctor, but there is no need to worry as the techs are very capable of his care. If these were "techs" that were trained off the streets in clinic, then it would be a different story. As long as they are officially registered or licensed then there is no need to fear. I know you under great stress, and I am sorry for that and I admire your strength. I am not trying to preach here, I am just trying too ease some of your stress so you know that the next time artie is with "just a tech" that he truly is in good hands. It is actually usually the techs that will stand up and tell a doctor that a better protocol needs to be in place. They are more likely to be advocates for artie then that grumpy s vet is.

I did not know that you were a registered tech! Good for you! I apologize for overstepping, when you already know everything I rambled on about. I'm sure as a fellow tech you understand the frustration when people under estimate us. I truly hope that artie can balance out and stabilize for you. You must be so frustrated having all your knowledge and being blocked out by the vet. There's not much more I can say about the situation except that my thoughts and prayers are with you and artie. I hope that you can both find some peace and find a way to work with this grumpy vet or find a new one that works better for you. All the best! [emoji]10084[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]

Thanks, I am not a Vet Tech.. I am a "human" tech.. At first I was an RT... Registered Tech in X-ray which, over the years became an Registered Technologist..

I went back to school because I was bored with the field. I became an, "RDMS" ,  Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer"  meaning an Ultrasound Tech...

I worked for around 33 years in that field.. and specialized in Peri-natal Ultrasound  ~~ that is of problem pregnancies... very stressful, but oh, so interesting...

No big deal...  I hope I did not come across as being obnoxious or boating...

Good Luck at school.. it is very hard work....((hugs))
