Hi, Happy Saturday.

Do you go shopping in the January sales? Do you ever get anything really good? What was your worst "It's on sale, I'll take it!" decision ever?

I try to avoid the sales because I really hate crowded places. I'm also not good at making quick decisions when I shop. If I'm going to buy something that isn't on my regular grocery shopping list I usually go back to visit the thing a few time. Just to make sure I want it as much the next time I see it.

The best thing I ever got on sale was a huge Bodyshop gift basket full of soaps and shower gels and body lotions, 25% off. I love that kind of stuff

My worst sale decision ever was a floor length, halter-neck 70's style dress with a purple and blue swirly pattern all over it. Kind of like this.

I needed something to wear to my Brother-in law's wedding. Tried it on and thought, "Yeah, this will do." When I got it home I showed my MIL and she went very pale, then pulled Mr Husband aside and whispered at him furiously. Turns out the wedding was going to be a very formal affair and I was expected to wear black.

I couldn't get a refund on the dress either, as it was in the sale. I ended up exchanging it for something equally hideous, which I then gave away.

How about you, any sales shopping horror stories?

I gave up shopping at sales because I could never find anything I really wanted. A few times I brought clothes but never did wear them. I good at getting sales at grocery stores but I detest shopping for clothes and household items.

I needed a full length slip to wear under my dresses. I saw one on E-bay I thought would do and bought it. When it came oh my. It had molded cups that were too big. There is no way to fix it, but the cups wrinkle under a dress. I couldn't send it back as the seller didn't accept returns. I think it is going to the thrift store.

I still need a full slip to wear under my dresses. :lol3:

I like shopping the sales, but prefer sales for house-type things: pillows, tablecloths, dishes, sheets, etc. And if there's something at a good price and I'd want the item even if it wasn't on sale, then I'd buy it. I love tablecloths.

Most of my true horror stories deal with dresses that I think would look good on me, get it home and then think, "What in the name of all that's holy was I even thinking??!" and then take it back. There was a dress that I never got around to taking back and it still hangs in my closet....way, way, way in the back of my closet. Oh, it fits me and Rick actually likes it (kind of), but every time I even look at it, I wonder what I was ever thinking when I bought it. For one thing, it's sleeveless and, as a matter of general service to the American public, I don't ever go sleeveless. But even with a light sweater, it's just wrong. So wrong. I tend to consider buying it as a brain fart. It has sunflowers. Really.

I like shopping the sales after the holidays but a lot of things are "final" sales, no returns.  I learned the hard way if it's clothes to try it on before buying and if it's not clothes it better be dirt cheap.

I don't much shop sales, since I only get out to shop once a month.  I have to take what's there.

WORST shopping mistake?  Oh, my first  husband.  He was far, far too expensive, and never worked properly at all.

A top I was going to wear for my stepson's wedding reception.  I normally wear straight lines, never lacy or 'fluffy' things, and jewel-tone colors.  But for some reason, this pastel colored, chiffon-y sort of top caught my eye.  I guess I was looking for something 'different.'  I got it home, tried it on again and just laughed.  I'm pale to begin with and the pastels made me look like I had the flu, and I felt ridiculous wearing all that poofiness.

Hubby laughed and said "What were you thinking?"

It was a non-returnable sale item that went immediately into the box of donations to Goodwill.  Fortunately it didn't cost much.

The only January sale I care about is the semi annual sale at Bath & Body Works. This is when I stock up on the Wallflower plug in refills and the body washes I like.

It's going on right now if anyone is interested.

ETA- I found a code on Retail Me Not for 20% off your order. DISCOVER20. I got $14.30 off my order!!

Ebates also offers 1% cash back on B&BW orders. Not a lot but every bit helps!

~GRIN~  I know that.  It's how I served the divorce notice.  Not the papers, but the notice.  In my defense, he had his hand around my elder son's throat when I bopped him.

I don't shop sales that much anymore.  I did go to a Bath and Body Works though.  I was much later than last year though so I didn't get as much in the way of really good deals.  Last year I went just a couple of days after Christmas and stocked up on a favorite scent that was 75 percent off.  They had it marked down because they were switching packaging on it.  I did get a couple of sets that were 50 percent off.

I used to but don't anymore. I think my biggest score was flannel sheets that originally cost $200 but I got for like $50
Another good one was big name underwear that originally cost $15 that I found on a clearance rack and after discounts and coupons, I got for $0.47.

...with the cats...
it's been many, many years since i've shopped the (big) sales. and i almost always stick to my shopping lists.

the last good thing i caught on sale was during last month's grocery shopping. i had wegmans family pack of 160 count gallon zipper bags on my list, they cost $8.99. but i looked a couple of shelves up and saw that they had the wegmans 40 count gallon zipper bags on sale for $1.96 per box. so i put four of those 40-count boxes in my shopping cart, and then worked through the rest of my shopping list. i keep a running total as i do my shopping, and i have a set amount i budget for each shopping trip. i was just under my total amount that i'd budgeted, so i went back and put four more 40-count boxes in my cart. i use those gallon zipper bags mostly for scraps bags, from the cats meals, and store them in the fridge until they're full, then out to the trash can. i saved $1.15 per 4 boxes, so $2.30 total. not a grand amount, but as @Kat0121 said, every little bit helps!

I don't remember what my worst decision was. Probably some type of clothing.

I always shop the Bath and Body Works sale for gifts for next Christmas for my nieces. Other than that I don't go out of my way to find something. I did buy Aaron a small desktop refrigerator for $25 last week.

I didn't realize January was a particular time for sales. I guess it makes sense.

I'm pretty sure I've never bought anything I didn't want "because it's on sale", although I've certainly bought things that sales brought to a reasonable price. I have a very specific style and know what I like.
