Hi!

I'm at my parent's house at the other end of the world and around two months ago, a feral mom gave birth to 5 kittens. Our neighbour and I have been feeding them, rescuing them from pits and trying to care for them in the best way we can. But lately, the runt has been lethargic. He's waaaaay smaller than his brothers and sisters. He is barely feeding. He's mostly lying there with his eyes semi-closed.

I'm leaving tomorrow and i am wondering if taking it to the local vet is even worth it? I don't want to go the whole way and just cause him more pain.

Mama isn't rejecting him so far. She even seems kind of distresed. She keeps nudging him with her nose :(

OK. The kitten is 2 months old? Is he eating at all? Is mom caring for him at all? I would definitely take this poor baby to the vet.  If you are leaving tomorrow, the best thing you can do for him is see if the vet will take him or find a local rescue or shelter and surrender him. He needs help ASAP if he is going to make it.

Thank you for caring about him. You are his only hope right now. If you need help finding a shelter or rescue, please let us know where you are (closest major city) and we can help you look for one.

I also agree, the runts are usually behind in weaning too, or get bullied out of eating food also, the same way they did while nursing, so he must be a fighter to some degree but may be at the point of losing without some extra care to get him stabilized.

There are no rescues to be found in Rabat, Morocco. I handed the cat to the vet and my cousin agreed to take it from there if I take care of the vet fees (she loves cats and rescued/rehabilitated many; the fees are just too much for her). So, so far we know he is underweight, dehydrated, and has worms. Blood results are slow to come.

Taking him from Mama was hard though. She bit my little finger and chewed it, I had to run away with her child. She actually followed me before meowing for him. He mewed back, and they went like that back and forth until we got in the car and away from the house :( I feel horrible.

That was way too hard on the emotions, huh? Hard enough for me to read it, let alone you do it, right? If you saved this baby's life, you did the right thing.

I'm sorry. I know that had to have been hard but you are very well saving her baby's life.

You and your cousin are heroes to this little one. Please try to look at it that way.
