So I noticed my little buddy Cheerio has been leaving little wet spots wherever he walks or lays down and now the top cushion of my brand new sofa smells like pee. He has been neutered for about 3 years and he was born in 08. It's not a constant thing where he is peeing everywhere he goes I don't think, it just seems like it stays on his fur and rubs off. The smell is pretty strong tho. I want to be able to have my cat get on my bed and the furniture but I can't deal with the smell not to mention it's disgusting. Anyone have any ideas to help?

I havent... but i honestly dont think that its that simple.. its been like this for about a mpnth now.. at first it was in my bed then i smelled it on the top of the couch where he lies then my son complained it was on his bed when the cat jumped up one night... i wish a quick rinse is all it would take but i doubt it.

You should get your cat to the vet ASAP. He could be developing a urethral blockage. If you see him straining to pee at any point, it's a medical emergency and you have to rush him to the nearest vet or he could die within hours.

I don't to be an alarmist but blockage is not rare in males of his age and it's something you have to be aware of.

With that out of the way, welcome to TCS

Whether it's a blockage or not, it sounds like your cat has some sort of urinary tract inflammation. It's probably quite painful too. Please take him to the vet as soon as possible and until you get to the vet, monitor his behavior very carefully. Again, if he's straining or vocalizing, it's an emergency.

Let us know what the vet says. The vet should have recommendations for dietary changes, according to the type of build-up your cat has. He may need to be treated with antibiotics if there's a bacterial infection there as well. Hopefully, once he's healed, you won't have any issues with urine dribbling.
