I would take him in a heartbeat, but my BF would choke me. LOL
he's been with us for 7 months now. He's such a good boy. So sweet and affectionate. It took him almost that long to come out of his safe room but he finally decided to and is enjoying himself a lot. He loves to snuggle on the blankets I keep on the couch and sit on  the top platform of the big cat tree in the living room.

This is so wierd, my dog, MIssy, when she was alive, when I would go into the bathroom and sit on the commode, she would trot in, stand right beside me and I would pet her head and face. When I was finished, I would say "OK" and she would turn around and trot back out into the living room. What is it about bathrooms and dogs and cats??? I don't get it either. I haven't thought of that fond memory in a while now, thank you for bringing up the subject of our "quirky pets" and what makes them act "quirky"

So... Xena absolutely positively cannot stand being picked up. She hates it and fights to be put down every  time I attempt to hold her.  After being scratched more times then I cared for, I stopped picking her up.  She also doesn't like being touched for too long.  She will let me touch her exactly 3 or 4 times before she moves away from me.  However,  I discovered that if I want Xenas attention all I have to do is go into my bathroom and sit down.  Each and every time she runs  into the bathroom wanting to be rubbed.  And if the door is closed she protests on the other side of the door to be let in. She walks in and out of my legs, rubbing her head against me.  She will stand up and put her legs on me so I can rub her ears, and she even makes the cutest chirping noise as all of this is taking place.  The moment I leave the bathroom she is back to her normal self.  I love her quirky personality though. So in order for me to get attention from her I have to go and sit on my commode.  Otherwise she will have nothing to do with me !
My calico, Boogie Bear is like that 100%. She can't stand being picked up or petted for more than, like you said, 3 or 4 pats and she loves to follow me to the bathroom. She follows me around the house, but if I reach to pet her she runs off. She likes to sit behind me on the back of the couch when I'm watching TV, but if I acknowledge her, she'll get down and run off. When I'm getting ready to leave for work in the morning, she loves to mark my legs of my pants with her fur, usually right after I've lint rolled them. She snuggles up next to me at bedtime, but only after I'm settled under the covers.

Ever since he was a kitten, my black cat, Sgt. Pepper has been obsessed with my feet. Back then, I used to spend a lot of time at my desktop PC doing homework and whatever. He was constantly on the floor nibbling at my toes. He likes to sleep at my feet. When I wake up in the morning, he likes to head-butt my feet and rub on them. I usually scratch him with my toes for a few minutes. Then I'll sit up and try to pet him, but he's done and runs off. So I pet him with my feet instead of bending over to pet him with my hands as I walk past him.

My other black cat, Jumbo, is very vocal. He's so loud, it's almost embarrassing when I take him to the vet. He just caterwauls like he's being tortured in the carrier and everyone looks at us funny. The last time he went, this cute little girl kept watching us. She asked me if he was sick. I told her, "No, he's here for a check up. He just hates the carrier." He does that when I'm on the phone too. A while back my TV satellite went out and I had to call tech support. He was yowling in the background. The rep asked me if I needed to check on my baby. I said, "That's just my cat, he's mad cuz I'm busy and he can't sit in my lap right now."  - He does one other weird thing. Every evening when I get home, he yowls at me of course, then goes to drink from the water bowl to the one in the kitchen, then back and forth between the 2. He apparently doesn't like the one in his cat room.

My kittens area always visiting me in the bathroom too!  Pepper generally isn't very vocal but he will mew at me in there all the time and insist I pet him.  Pickles will try to crawl into my pants as I'm on the commode.  Seriously, it's not that comfy in there! ha ha  I did put the kittens' litter box in there but when I'm in there they just hang around my feet, try to jump into my lap or explore the bathtub across from me.

Gee, these bathroom stories are pretty funny!! Robin does this as well!! I think he knows I'm suctioned to the toilet seat and thus am his (what's that saying?) OH "captive audience". Ha!!! I have a tote next to the commode and he flops down there and keeps me company. But what a view when I'm um. You know. After. Lol. * clears throat*

My cats love the bathroom, too!  When I take a shower, one is on the window sill and one is on the commode seat, both watching me through the see-thru shower curtain.  I often have to get Boris out of the bathtub before I turn the water on.  They both like to watch me sit on the john.  I like being the center of their attention, but I don't know why they are so fascinated by that room.

When I am at my desk, Diamond likes to get on my lap and sit.  He will stay as long as I pet him.  But he will not allow me to use my computer mouse while he is on my lap.  Can I pet him with one hand and use the mouse with the other hand?  Nope!  He nuzzles the hand using the mouse, making accuracy impossible!  Must use both hands to pet cat!!!

All of these stories are great !!!! Thanks everyone for sharing.
I have truly enjoyed myself reading about all of the quirkiness.

On another note, I wanted to add a story about my other baby Frankie.  He is the exact opposite of Xena.  He loves all of my attention and affections. He even tolerates me kissing him. If I pucker my lips he will get close enough to smell my lips, and I of course take that opportunity to kiss him. That isn't the story though I wanted to tell.  Frankie has a very playful quality about him....  My husband would tell me that Frankie is a trouble maker, which I would never believe, always defending Frankie.  Well.... that changed when I had an opportunity to observe Frankie and one of his quirky routines.  Mind you Frankie doesn't do this to me... only to my husband.  So.... anytime my husband comes home from being out of the house Frankie always greets him at the door. Then Frankie will run ahead of my husband ... stop... look back .... to see which direction my husband is going.  If my husband is going into the bed room Frankie will run ahead of him and jump up on the bed and stretch out in his spot.  Hahaha.... my husband has to argue with Frankie to get him to move.  And if my husband is going towards his recliner... Frankie will run and jump into the recliner to keep my husband from sitting down.  Hahaha.  He is such a little stinker.  I would never have believed if had I not witnessed it several times. Frankie has the habit of being an angel when I am home. And a bad boy when I am not. Gotta love him !!!

Our family has six cats; Momma, Spot, Ra, Princess, Slipper, and Asia, and they're all a bit quirky.

Let's start at feeding time. Momma will dip her paw into the wet food (and sometimes the dry food) and will scoop it up to eat from her hand. AWM thinks that she's trying to eat like a human. She makes a mess, but then I look at her role models and I'm not surprised. When Ra eats dry food he will lie flat on the floor just lift his head to eat. I'm not sure why. (I've got the dry food in a bowl with a smaller bowl upside down in the middle to make sure that he can't eat so much at a time he chokes--which he used to do.) Princess will, for some reason, occasionally bury  the food: she will go to the printer, get pieces of paper, and use them to cover the bowls--not sure why. She, and more importantly the other cats, will still  eat the food after it's been covered, so I don't worry about it too much.

Pets are also interesting at our house. Princess doesn't really liked to be touched, kind of like your cat, but she does like what AWM calls "pets on the go." What happens is this: AWM will hold her hand out parallel to the floor, Princess will run under it--and Presto! Princess has had her pets for the day. (She's AWM's favorite cat.) Spot loves to be held--and his favorite place to be is my lap when I'm on the porcelain throne. (To be fair, this might be because I'm kind of short and the porcelain throne is the only seat in the house that my lap doesn't slope on.) Slipper will inform you in no uncertain terms when she wants to be pet: she will start by rubbing against you and purring, move up to chirping if that doesn't get a response, and then swipe you with her claws if you still don't pet her. Momma likes to be held and cuddled, and will actually shove cats that are already in laps out so she can get her cuddles. Ra--I wish my camera hadn't broken so I could post a picture of this--Ra likes to be cuddled upside down and gently rocked--like a baby. Asia likes pets and cuddles too--but only at night and only if no one can see her. She'll wait for me on my bed, walk up for her pets and cuddles, and then fall asleep on my chest.

Sounds are also interesting. Spot never stops talking, but he's developed a new habit lately. One of the things our house has is an outdoor utility room and the door doesn't always shut properly, so sometimes it swings open. Spot will go into the room and yowl--not at anything mind you, but just because the room echoes. I think it's his version of singing in the shower. Asia chirps like a bird, Princess can ask for "mik" (we drink lactaid here--the cats aren't the only ones lactose intolerant!). Momma and Slipper do what I call the "pitiful silent mew." They will make their eyes really big, shudder as if they're mewing as loud as they can--and no sound will emerge.

Funny you should mention the toilet thing; most of the cats will wait outside the bathroom if someone's on the toilet. They'll (with the exception of Spot because when he hears the toilet flush he runs and hides behind the dresser) watch as someone flushes and then saunter out as if they just happened to be in the same room as a human. I find it a riot!

 I love these stories!!

Speedy has several toys that are attached to long stick/wands and she loves when we play with them.
The quirky part is, that in the morning, I can hear the wand toy being dragged through several rooms with a strange cry until she makes it to my bed and delivers it to me!
She looks so happy for herself when she does this!
Also, when I am taking a bath, I can hear the wands being dragged up the stairs with the same cry and then delivered to me in front of the bathroom door!

Lets see. Cat quirks. Mine have many as I believe all cats do.

Carrot thinks that he is part golden retriever. Whenever the house is too quite and no one is paying enough attention to him, he will bring his toys out to you one by one meowing loudly. He doesn't want to play with them, just have us acknowledge that he brought them. He also loves to burrow under blankets and sleep under them. Many times when we first got him we came home to find a lump in the middle of our made bed. When we bought a new ceramic food bowl for the kitten, he started to refuse his metal bowl and will only eat out of hers most of the time.

Angua is still a kitten. She will fetch crinkle balls when they are thrown. If I leave dishes to soak in the sink she will drink out of them. She will not eat out of Carrot's metal bowl. If he starts eating out of hers, they will just share the food in the bowl. She is a master computer hacker and if I let her near my computer she will somehow hit keys to do things that I never knew my computer could do. She has so far turned the screen off, turned the screen display upside down, and successfully googled some things.

@NewYork1303 "...and successfully googled some things."  That made me laugh. I guess cats also have burning questions that only the internet can answer.
I DO believe our cats are secretly computer experts and way smarter than we sometimes give them credit for!

I was frantically searching for hours for an important document and I could NOT find it anywhere! I looked in my desk, on my desk, under my desk. I went through books and folders, pulled out the trash can and sorted through it twice! I think at one point I even looked in the refrigerator for it! I was getting desperate!

Finally, I looked over at my two cats and asked, "OK, Boys, what the
did you do with it"!?  Kricket hopped down from the chair and started sniffing under the desk, so I told him I already looked there! He shrugged his shoulders as if to say "I tried!" and went back over and curled up on the chair.  Then Keeker jumped up on the desk and calmly walked over and hopped on top of the printer. Suddenly, I heard the printer start up and watched as paper slowly rolled out.

Yup! There it was! He printed off a copy of the document I was searching for! I had forgotten I scanned it the night before so I would have a permanent record in my computer and I left the stupid thing on the scanner!

I couldn't thank him enough! And all I got from him was a look that clearly said, "Sometimes you are just way too stupid, Mom"!

I feel kind of weird replying to this, but here goes:

My family is one filled with cats. In fact, before i was born, my mother owned a rather quirky Ginger Female Cat named (rather Uncreatively ) Cat.
her habits included:

1) Breaking into the Fridge or Cupboard, and pilfering Avocados, Bananas, Cereal and Dried Spaghetti which was soon devoured
2) Flipping coins over
And lastly 3) Entering through the Cat Flap with enough force to break the door off

She was most certainly the Strangest cat i have heard off, though the cat she had at the time of my birth (a Black and White Cat named Rueso) once brought in a balloon and spent around 3 hours trying to figure out how to get it through the Cat Flap, and our current cat (a brown and black female tortoiseshell names Smudge who just wandered in one day, a few weeks after Ruesos Death), who drops her caught (Alive) Mice into My hand.

Nice thread.

As for Mouse, where should I start?
Most of you will have heard them before I guess.

Probably the most unusual one is his intollerance of any dirty dishes, plates of cups being left about the place - other than the sink and draining area beside it.  Esp coffee cups and anything that smells of garlic.  He will scrape and scratch away like he's trying to cover it, and keep going until I pick it up and take it through to the kitchen sink.  The floor is a real no-go zone for any human crockery!

His other little habit is that he never comes and sits on me or curls up on my lap, much as he is a seriously cuddly cat he makes his humans work for their cuddles and we have to go to where ever he wants in order to get up close with his lovely fur - unless....  I pick up my laptop, open it up and turn in on. The effect is almost instant.   He is up and laying across my arms, headbutting and looking for kisses for about 10 minutes. He will do this periodically through the day or evening if I am on line for a while.    If he wants to play he lays on the floor and looks as cute and cats can be, doing his rabbit impersonation with paws all crooked up and laying on his back but the cuddles come first.

The list could go on but I don't want to send anyone to sleep.

Two  more that I remembered:

Angua is obsessed with shoes. She thinks they are her playmates. She will stash toys all the way down in the toe of the shoe. She also wrestles with any shoes left on the ground and moves them around the room.

Carrot hates unmade beds. If you don't make the bed, then he is guaranteed to pee on it. He has the same reaction to new blankets just for him. When we bought his new blanket he peed on it multiple times before deciding that he actually likes it and will sleep with it.
