What have you found is a good food for cats with frequent UTI's? I called the vet and seeing shy guy is back to licking himself, they want to put him back amitriptyline and on a prescription diet. They said they have Science diet and RC.
I was hoping that would be enough. Did you have a problem with your cat licking his genitals? thats one problem that needs to be remedy and have to find out the reason. he is still bothering him. I assume its good he doesnt cry when in the litter box. They said it can cause problems if he continues to do it. Oh i dont think I said since yesterday at 2pm. He has only gotten wet food and will continue. But the licking worries me. He didnt do it while on meds.
I would suggest if you can, just feed him wet food. I've not any more problems with my male cat who blocked while eating dry food. I've fed a variety of brands, just adding extra tsps of water to help keep the bladder flushed.
Ok the vet finally called back. They want him on prescription diet, and back on amitriptyline and prazosine. They said when they tested him the first time he was in. They didnt spin it down. But he had blood, high ph level and high protein. They couldnt get me in before next wednesday. So Im going in then for another urinalysis and to see where he is at. Then maybe blood test, for liver/kidneys. Anything else you would suggest? I don have credit cards, so this is going to have to be cash. And already expensive.
Well, what did they find in the urinalysis? Was he given any antibiotics? Also what are you feeding him right now? Also it seems he is stressed easily. Can the Vet prescribe something to help calm him?
yes he was on baytril twice. 10 days each. Finished the last of it saturday. Noticed yesterday he was licking again. I should have just taken in him today.
My cat fully blocked, he did lick that area as he'd a catheter put in for almost a week, so he was sore. I suppose your cat has the urine burning and bothering him so he is trying to soothe it. Depending if there are an excess amount of crystals and/or stones, you may need to have him on the canned RX diet for a while to help flush and dissolve the excess crystals. I have my fully blocked cat on it for a month. I do think you should have the blood test done to see how the kidneys are. If he does have a UTI he should be put on antibiotics, several weeks ago, a male of mine broke into the dog food bag and snacked some for a few days, sneaky fellow, and ended up with a UTI. For him, since he wasn't blocked, I gave clavamox drops for a week, by Vet direction and feeding strictly canned food myself and locked the dog food up.
? is this posted on the right post? Its shy guy. But how do i make him comfortable. he tried to pee again, this time on the couch. he then groans afterwards. then sits for awhile. anyone know how long it would take the prazosine to work? we have 7 cats total. All rescues. we live in the country and they get left here. we took in momma cat 4 years ago and kept her and the kittens. As we couldnt find homes. Then zane came to us and we couldnt turn him away.
Try asking for Orbax and see what they say. Its a more potent antibiotic than clavamox and its more broad spectrum. For now, try to keep him comfy and to get him to consume a decent amount of water, with canned food, its less of a problem, he might eat it with a tsp or two of extra added water. I was wondering if you had any other cats than Charlie?
My gosh, poor thing was trying to pee for about an hour. Walk to different spots. he finally pee'd at about 11:30 pm. Im trying to get him to drink some water from a bowl. We have to fountains he use some times. But I guess not enough. I need to try and make tuna water. Bt dont have any or chicken. How else can i get him to drink more besides adding water to his canned food?
I do not have any experience with prazozine. Can you keep him in a spare room or possibly closet with a litterbox and food and water, all by himself? Also how many litter pans do you have? You do have this posted under cat health, it should be alright.
