We are almost certain our kitten has feline leuk but we won't know until later this week. Is there any risks to letting him sleep in my bed in the meantime? Can humans contract the virus?
There is zero danger to you or to dogs, it does not cross species at all. But as the poster above said, it is easily transmitted to other cats. If you only have the one cat then love her for as long as she is healthy, and if you are lucky she will only have the first stage of the disease and will be able to recover. In the link below check out the section on the importance of both types of tests, the Elisa test and the IFA test and that repeat testing is sometimes needed. We are almost certain our kitten has feline leuk but we won't know until later this week. I'm so sorry for this terrible diagnosis, a terrible and tragic disease. I hpoe you have some quality time with him before you you have to make a decision. Here is a good website on FIP with good info. Again I'm so sorry.Test results came back. He has dry infectious peritonitis and it's 100% terminal. The best we can do now is make him comfortable. I am heartbroken but I gave him the best life I could. I hope he knows he is loved.
