Okay, so one of my recent posts here was about trying to find an alternative to the Hill's Prescription c/d, as it makes my cat stinky beyond words.
It seems like the biggest answer for urinary problems is wet food, wet food, and more wet food. While I don't know if the prescription canned would make him stinky, I can say that at close to $300 a month for just him to eat prescription canned food would be waaayyyyy out of my budget. (He's a 15 pound cat, and would have a bigger food budget than I have for myself in a month if I did that!)
So, I recently spotted that Friskies has a canned Special Diet for Urinary problems. Truthfully, the ingredients seem a better than the Hills, and reading around places it seems like a lot of people are pleased with it.
So, Questions:
A lot of articles about urinary problems say to avoid fish, but some of the line is fish flavored. Should I avoid those ones?
Can all of my cats eat this? I would love to finally have all of my cats eating one food, so I don't have to guard one or try to feed them separately without the others trying to get what the others have.
Is this okay to feed a 9 month old kitten? A vet told me a while back that Friskies was good for all age groups. Would this also be true of the special diet? I actually worry about him, as he hates drinking water and is obviously going to be a large male, so he already has three strikes against him. I certainly don't want a second cat with urinary issues.
I actually have started to add it into their diet to see how they like it, and am very happy with improvements to Zephyr's smell already. Plus, he's always had very soft stool, but the extra moisture has actually made him solid for the first time in his 10 year life!
I'm really hopeful that this will be what he needs to keep him from issues. Plus, I could afford to feed all 4 of my cats on this, which might be one of the few canned cat foods out there that I could do that with.
