Hi. My adoptable kitten Bobbie-Finn had a seizure last night. Nothing seemed to lead up to it, and the research I've done all said there were three stages, which included the aura stage. She didn't show any of this. My brother was playing with her, her brother, and my dog in the kitchen with a feather wand toy. He says she jumped up to get the toy, landed, and started shaking. When I got to her, after several seconds, she looked like she might be choking because she kept grunting, and pawing forward. Then I realized her body was stiff and twitching simultaneously.
So, to remove her from the attention of her brother and my dog, I wrapped her in a towel and brought her to my room, laying her on my bed in the towel, and saying her name over and over again. She went through a distinct panting/distress phase, and the closer she got to coming out of it, the more she meowed. After recovering for about thirty minutes, she decided to get up and jump down off the bed. Naturally, I wouldn't let her get up and at it that soon, and she tolerated it. All in all, her recovery time was an hour. The seizure itself was four if not five minutes.
I have no experience with seizures and from her current condition, it's hard to tell anything happened at all. She was just spayed a month ago, she had a microchip put in, she got her beginning series shots three weeks ago. She tested negative for all major feline virus and disease. Other than that, the only thing I can think of that was different was the nutrient paste I added to their food yesterday... made by Richards Organics or Richards Natural? I only add it once a week. They've had it before, but have always eaten around it on the plate. If it did ever cause this, I didn't see it happen.
Any ideas what could have caused this or could it be over stimulation? I would like to know what to expect of diagnosis. Thanks.
