Long story short, I rescued a four week old kitten from underneath a porch. His mommy was no where to be seen and his litter mates were all dead. Wanting to save him, I rushed him to a vet. The vet helped me nurse him back to health, and now I have an eleven week old, male tabby named Banksy.

However, I am torn. I recently found out through xrays and ultrasounds, that my baby was born with a heart defect. The vet told me that his heart is enlarged and so are his lungs. She also told me that there are some areas where it appears air and fluid is not being circulated as it should be. Of course I then ask her, "What should I do?" She then replied that the surgery and diagnostic testing for this type of disease would cost thousands of dollars, with small hope that he would make it. She told me to give him the best possible kitty life he could have, and that I should expect him to pass before he reaches one year.

Some part of me just can't accept this. I've been constantly crying over it. I don't want to lose my little furry baby. I love him so much, and I'm doing all I can for him, I'm 21 years old, a full time college student, and I also work full time. I just don't know what else to do. I don't want to abandon him at a shelter, I fear they would euthanize him. I've contacted Humane Society in attempts to be informed on any medical assistance programs. Even if I had enough to take him to a kitty heart doctor to have more testing done, I think it would help him greatly. I've also sent his xrays etc. to other vets to get other opinions.

I just really don't want him to die, help, anyone? What do you think I should do?

You could always take him to a different vet for a second opinion.  Ask if they give a student discount, especially if you got a vet near UNT or TWU.  (I live in Fort Worth and graduated from TWU.)  You could also ask to be referred to a feline cardiologist.  There's probably one either in Dallas or Fort Worth somewhere.

I'm so sorry.  Reading this made me cry.  I came here looking for help and everyone is so nice and helpful yet I get so depressed reading these stories from other people.  I so hope your kitty is ok.

Hi Toriable2016 and welcome to the forum !

I believe that, if I were in your 'shoes', I'd be looking for a specialized online community of people gathered for one purpose: the management of their heart-kitties' health, a place with years of collective experience in feline heart conditions where people would be 'in the know' about treatments/resources/specialists...a place like this:
A place where members can discuss feline heart conditions and treatments. You are welcome whether your cat was just diagnosed, suddenly passed on, or if you just want to learn more about feline heart conditions. Started April 2000
If that interests you, you can join up with such a group right here: Support for Feline Hearts    Just click on the  +Join Group   button....it's a very busy place, so I think you will find that getting a new separate email address will help you better manage the information flow.

I'm going to take a look for bookmarks I may have for NGOs/foundations that are known to provide funding for extraordinary feline health expenses.

Now, that group may 'take you away'.....but, you have to keep us up-to-date too !

Are you near Texas A&M ?  They have a small animal hospital with access to specialists in every aspect of feline health. Here's their website: Small Animal Hospital at Texas A&M    Most veterinary school hospitals have some limited funding available (and I know A&M does) for situations like yours.

Firstly, your cat is gorgeous! I mean.. Wow!

Secondly, you're so very kind to offer all that information.

Hi, I think you are amazing for what you have done thus far. And that baby is simply adorable...I think you should "Google" low income veterinarian and start making phone calls, explaining the urgency of your situation. I have a place nearby where I can get kitties spayed or neutered for ten dollars, and once about 8 years ago, I painted the garage and exterior trim for a veterinarian so he could save my sister's dog...it just takes persistence, and I wish you nothing but the best of luck!!! Take care. :)

I have an update guys! Banksy is now about 7 months old! Sometimes he still has breathing trouble, but I'm hopeful he will be around for a long while :) The doctors said they were surprised he has been doing so well.

He is still my little demon baby, but I love him to death.

What a wonderful kitty.  I am glad he is still doing well.  Cats can beat some pretty insurmountable odds.  Sounds like you are doing something right.  Just keep on loving him the way you are.  He is in my thoughts and prayers and please do keep us updated.   Snuggles for Banksy.
