Tammat, Cleo is adorable!

Mani, you go, girl!

I won't be walking today (and it's not an excuse!!
) I didn't hit the treadmill this morning. Fell down the basement steps last night and hurt my foot. It's not swollen, but overnight it really started to hurt. Rick made me promise that I'd stay off of it for the next few days; he hates that I walk every day and he keeps saying I need to take a day off every now and then). It doesn't feel too badly right now (sitting at my desk with my leg propped up on top of my computer on the floor), but I'd better not chance it. And it's pouring outside and we're to get about 2 inches of rain today. I won't go out at lunch either.

So it looks like I'm going to get a couple of days off whether I wanted them or not. I haven't had a day off for quite a while (I did end up walking this past Saturday after all), but I still feel guilty.  Depending on how the foot feels tonight, I may try the elliptical at least.

Oh that's awful. Good to hear you are going to take it easy. Ice is always helpful too. Just remember that if you don't rest you could make it worse and then you will lose more precious walking time. Ill be thinking of you and I'm sure everyone else will be too. No harm will come from a little rest only good.

Oh no Winchester! Definitely rest for a few days, and get plenty of good nutrition to facilitate healing.

If you're dying to get some exercise in, what about the pool? Or crunches? Or arm stuff?

:vibes::vibes::vibes: PAM!!! Of course, getting a couple days off of work with a hurt foot is not the way to go. :sigh: I hope you recover quickly. Best to stay off of it.

I am not working out today BUT I am going to take my boys for a leisurely stroll in the park. I am prepping for that darn C-scope tomorrow. Not feeling well on top of it and have to be on a liquid diet today and tomorrow morning before the procedure. :nervous:

Taking a few days off is a good idea. You don't want to cause further injury so I would skip the elliptical for a day or two. Like peaches said if you are itching to burn some calories you can work those arms out.

I did a much longer core workout today with 45 minutes on the elliptical. I want my stomach to look good for put in bay in 2 weeks. Well I want it all to look good but that is the area we ladies tend to focus on the most.

Feralvr hope everything goes well tomorrow. At least it is only today and then after your appointment make sure to treat yourself to something tasty.

Oh no, Pam! Definitely rest it!

I walked around 4 miles and used the 2lb wrist weights this time.

Golly...is a C-scope a colonoscopy?  You will really need to take it easy, Lauren.. That prep is really draining.

And Pam, rest that foot!  It really doesn't do to feel a whole lot of 'shoulds' at a time like this.. it just creates stress.

So I guess for a couple of us, this is a 'rest motivation' post

On the bike again today..

Winchester. I'm with peaches and luvmy4. My friend Jillian Michaels swears by punches. You can stand in a squat, hold your tummy tight and punch like mad. They raise your heart rate and burn calories. It's Great to think of everything that's annoying you too! Release a bit of anger!! I'm pretty sure you could just stand straight or sit for that matter. Hang in there.

Did Ultimate Ball video today...the ball won. LOL! It was good to do some active recovery while seriously working my core though. Couldn't stop giggling at myself when I would fall off the ball. That's a good thing! Six months ago I would have been down on myself for it. Glad to be in a better place now.

Keep up the good work everybody! And Winchester, try some core work. It pays off to have a good core even when walking.

How'd you like the heavier wrist weights, Abbysmom?

Good for you peaches. I laugh at myself too when I'm running along with my beet root red face and I hear myself groan out load!! I don't care how I look. I'm doing my best and that's all that matters.
Today I did JM buns and thighs and JM six pack abs (5kg) weights.

Did a long ride today.. it was far more challenging heading out due to a stiff north easterly wind but it made the homeward run a bit of a doddle!

Definitely feeling the benefits.

Pam, I hope your foot is on the mend.

Thanks guys! Yesterday was my first day off since the beginning of February. Rick was very happy that I actually listened to him (and to you all). I didn't do anything.

Foot feels better today and I didn't have that pain last night when I moved it around in bed. Still hurts if I do circles with the foot, mainly when it goes to the right.

I can't walk over lunch as I have to attend a funeral this morning, so must make the time up over lunch.

Tonight, I'm going to try the elliptical for a mile....just a mile....and see how it feels. And I'm going to do some work with dumb bells tonight for about a half hour or so. That way, all is not lost. And I like the idea of those punches, Tammat! Will do some of those, too!

I'm hoping that tomorrow morning I'll be able to hit the treadmill again.

(Last night I went downstairs to get something out of the freezer. The treadmill is next to the freezer and I swear when I opened the door, it said,
"Well, it's about time! Get those legs over here and turn me on! C'mon now!"
 Yes, I'm kidding.)

Karen, do you like the heavier weights?

Peaches, I've heard of falling off the wagon, but the ball?
I've done it, too. I have a DVD that came with my ball. Can't tell you how many times I fell off that thing....doing crunches on a ball is not easy.

Good luck with the C-scope, Lauren!

Mani, keep on riding!

Good work, ladies!

Way to go everyone! Glad you rested, Pam. :)

So today I walked 4.3 miles and what I did with the heavier weights is try to swing my arms up towards my shoulders. Whoa, that was a workout for me. I would pick a spot in my head and then swing my arms and walk faster and get to that spot and then walk normally for a bit and then do the swinging again. I would go until I though my arms were going to fall off, then push it and go a tiny bit further then walk normal. That was really tough! I don't think I will do that every walk, but maybe every other. Tomorrow I will be shoveling mulch out in the yard, so will need to save my arms for that. :lol3:

I am SUCH a bad dieter! Ugh! Else I'd join. I will, however, watch quietly and hope to gain some tips along the way.

Just thought I'd throw this out there for folks dealing with muscle soreness: so I was googling supplements and muscle soreness and I came across a blog in which a person applied something she saw on Dr. Oz for muscle pain. You take 600 mg calcium, 400 mg magnesium, and 200 mg potassium. I started it yesterday and notice a difference. Please don't take my word for it, look and decide for yourself by Googling "muscle pain" and "potassium" and you'll find an article on Dr. Oz's website "7 days pain free" or something like that. I'm a goof as far as posting links, so if someone finds it please post it. This mineral supplementation is supposed to be good for back pain and migraines, too.

Today is a scheduled off day per the workout program and I'm taking it! :D

I've been taking a supplement called Ultra Magnesium Powder from Thompson's for quite a while now.  It has way too much in it to list here, but it's really well balanced.  If you take calcium make sure that it's actually absorbable.   It's essential to have vitamin D for calcium absorption and there are different types of calcium.. it takes a bit of research.

Some heavy-duty gardening today, and a short ride a bit later (very windy which makes it difficult)

The calcium I get passed the at-home vinegar test, and it can at times be constipating, so I'm assuming that they're OK. I know what you mean about calcium and being absorbed; wish I could afford the more expensive brands but I can't at this time.

That is a great idea for everyone who is trying to lose a few. I won't be joining because I am not trying to lose weight and I never weigh myself anyways. Good luck to everyone who is though.

I did not workout today though I planned  to. I have been an emotion crying wreck all day
. My SO was supposed to be coming home for a visit tomorrow but now has to stay in Mexico for another week before coming home. I am freaking out that that might change too and I will have to be alone until August. Sorry to complain it just sucks but it is part of his job to be away for field season. No exercise today just tequila, the internet, and I also got new shelves so probably reorganize my closet, but even the thought of new organizers isn't cheering me up. It will keep me busy though.

Peaches yep potassium is great for muscle pain and to prevent cramps from dehydrated muscle tissue. Also, if you have muscle soreness you should probably avoid dairy for a day or so. The pain is caused by an abundance of lactic acid in the muscle tissue. Dairy has lactic acid. I know milk is high in lactic acid, but honestly I don't know if fermented or cultured dairy still has this or not.

I know milk has lactose, never heard about it having lactic acid though. As far as DOMS, they used to think it was caused by lactic acid but it has been proven false. The pain felt is from microtears in the tissue.

In any case, I sweat so much and drink so much water that I wouldn't doubt electrolyte imbalances in my case! So I surely don't want to be the reason that someone took something OTC and caused themselves any trouble.

Sorry about the bad news. That stinks!

Well done Mani. Did you know gardening is excellent exercise? It burns heaps of calories. Keep up the good work.

I take a magnesium supplement. Not for sore muscles but because I get very tired. My Dr said that some people get cramps when they sweat a lot from exercise and some people can feel tired. I also have pure protein powder in a shake. It defiantly gives me energy and helps with muscle recovery.
Luvmy4 hope you feel better soon. Heartache is the worst pain of all.
