Babies are doing good, momma is not producing enough milk however so I am also doing supplemental feedings with KMR. Momma gets all the wet food she desires, as well as some supplemental milk so hopefully it will help jump start her body into producing more.
Just found this... What a wonderful job you've done, looking after this mother. It just breaks my heart to think of her and her new-borns out on the street.
So this morning I went to weigh the kittens in, same time as yesterday. Here's what I got
Leo (#1) went from 109.9g to 114.7g for a total of 4.8g
Libra (#2) went from 103.5g to 113.3g for a total of 9.8g
Andromeda (#3) went from 99.8g to 106.6g for a total gain of 6.8g
Vela (#4) went from 95.0g to 92.9g for a total LOSS of 2.1g
Draco (#5) went from 101.1g to 108.6g for a total gain of 7.5g
Scorpius (#6) went from 114.7g to 119.0g for a total gain of 4.3g
Obviously not ideal gains, and with a kitten losing weight I had to step in. Went and bought KMR, have done two supplemental feedings since then with momma nursing the babes in between. 5.5 hours later, these are now their weigh-ins
Leo went from 114.7g to 117.5g for a total gain of 2.8g in 5.5 hours.
Libra went from 113.3g to 116g for a total gain of 2.7g in 5.5 hours.
Andromeda went from 106.6g to 109.6g for a total gain of 3g in 5.5 hours.
Vela went from 92.9g to 96.0g for a total gain of 3.1g in 5.5 hours.
Draco went from 108.6g to 114.0g for a total gain of 5.4g in 5.5 hours.
Scorpius went from 119.0g to 122.3g for a total gain of 3.3g in 5.5 hours.
So hopefully the supplemental feedings are helping. All of the babies seem active and alert but I know how fast they can go downhill!! Hopefully between me and their mama we can keep them all alive and healthy!
Leo went from 114.7g to 124.4g for a total gain of 9.7g (in 24 hours)
Libra went from 113.3g to 118.5g for a total gain of 5.2g (in 24 hours)
Andromeda went from 106.6g to 112.5g for a total gain of 5.9g (in 24 hours)
Vela went from 92.9g to 100.1g for a total gain of 7.2g (in 24 hours)
Draco went from 108.6g to 115.4g for a total gain of 6.8g (in 24 hours)
Scorpius went from 119.0g to 129.4g for a total gain of 10.4g (in 24 hours)
I was observing mama and babies today and earlier she stood up, went and squat, and then her stomach began having big contractions while she deeply yowled. I was SO worried she may have a kitten still inside of her after seeing that, so I took her and babies into the vet. Vet palpated her and said there was no kitten left, but that her bowels were inflamed from labor and diarrhea she had had for who knows how long (since she's only been under human care for less than two weeks). We took a fecal and tested for coccidia and giardia, and all the other parasites which all came back negative. The doctor prescribed metronidazole twice daily for 7 days and also told me to go pick up some kaopectate and give it to her 3 times daily to hopefully clear up her diarrhea and get her poor digestive tract back in order.
I'm at work, but both yesterdays and todays weigh-ins have been good! Momma isn't cleaning the babies though, so i've had to wipe em down a bit each day and stimulate them, along with supplemental feedings. But all are gaining and seem to be doing fine!
Aww! So cute.. I see all these posts about cats having their kittens.. I want my cat to have hers SOON! LOL.. but I'll have to wait ..:/ SOOOO adorable though.. I'm sure they will find great homes..
Is your cat already pregnant? If not please, please don't let her have kittens. There are so many in rescues and shelters many of which will be pts because they can't get a home fast enough.
I plan on keeping the kittens.. we plan on spaying/neutering the Mom cat and the kittens... they will be going to the family.. I would never intentionally abandon a cat...or any animal at that..
