I have 2 cats who are being spayed as soon as I can save up the money. Or am approved for the spay program. I want Phoenix done asap so she doesn't have anymore heats. And I want to get Rose done before her first heat.

Does anyone know how long it takes for approval from the program? Also say if I was approved to get Phoenix done in say 2 weeks. Rose is only 10 weeks (today) so she is too young right now. In 6 weeks when she is old enough would I be able to apply again? Or is it a one time approval even with multiple cats?

I have used low-costt programs before, but not that one, of course. They all have different rules, so you'll have to call them to ask those questions.

And Rose may not be too young. The low-cost program I used would do kittens at 12 weeks/3 pounds, and others will do kittens as young as 8 weeks/2 pounds. Again, rules vary so you'd have to ask them.

Yes rules do vary.  I TNRd on a regular basis, and the rule of thumb was two months or two pounds (two pounds was more important than age).

Low cost sometimes = high volume, which is good:  the vets have a wider range of experience.

If you have to save to get them spayed, keep saving.  Vet bills will come along, if you have no reserves to meet them it can be heart-breaking.

I just wanted to point out that the OP is in Canada and, even though she's using a low cost spay/neuter program, it can be very difficult to find a vet that will do it. I don't know of any where I live, or close to where I live, that will do early spay/neuter. There may be a few that I didn't check with for various reasons, I'm extremely picky about the vets that I will use. You usually have to wait until 5-8 months to do it, depending on the vet.

OP - do you mind PMing me the name of the organization that you plan to go through? Is it the OSPCA one or a different one?

I agree, pets are not cheap to own and basic care like spaying should be factored into the decision to own one, let alone 2. I hope you're able to get them both done asap, there are health issues with going through heat cycles and it's also best to spay before the first cycle so if you can get the little one in at the same time she won't have to go through a cycle at all.

Hopefully they are up to date on procedures and do early neutering, it's been around for decades.
