Some of you saw my post of FB about The Hunger Games being filmed in my area and me not evening knowing until it was all over.  I am not so interested in movie stars, but loved the trilogy and would liked to have gotten a picture of that warehouse with District 12 painted on it (which was in Shelby, NC, a short ride from my work).  My boss did some investigating for me and found that the warehouse has since been torn down.  It is now "a pile of rubble".  I rarely watch the local news, but apparently the movie was a big deal around here.

I'm about 1/2 through book 3. I'm on a jury right now...it's set to last through this week and next week and maybe into the week after. I think I may finish The MockingJay tomorrow, with the way the way the waiting time in the jury room has been going.I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Hunger Games trilogy!!!!!! I also love my Kindle!

My 18 year old read the whole series (and she proudly states BEFORE it got popular
) and really liked it.  The younger kid wants to read the series, but the wait for it at the library is crazy.

One of the library's branches is holding a "Hunger Games" tomorrow afternoon for kids 12 and up.  It looks really cool- the first 20 kids who responded would get to try archery (at a paper target of course)

Now that I've seen previews for the movie- the book has aroused my interest.  Maybe I'll get the first one so the younger kid can read them.

And that's cool that the movie was filmed so close to your house.

Above is the link to an article about part of the movie being filmed in Shelby.  I mentioned to an officer at work that I was looking forward to the movie and he told me that his son (also a fan) auditioned for it.  Other parts of the movie were filmed in Hildebran...I have lots of relatives in that area, but again, had no idea until after it was all done and over with.

I loved the trilogy and can't wait to see the film.  I hate crowds so will wait until the initial rush is over..I don't have to be one of the first, just so long as I get to see it in the theater :)

The jury is still out on whether I will see it at the theater.  The last movie I saw in a theater was The Return of the King and that's been quite a while.

No offense but it sounds like a watered down version of Battle Royale.

:yeah:

The first book was exciting in the beginning, but then just went downhill and ended badly IMO. (No spoilers, I promise, just my opinion :) ). The second and third books were just not good.

I honestly don't reallllly get all the hype. Yeah, they're good, but they're not Harry Potter good.

The reason I said that is there was a rumor that Hollywood was going to try to do an American version of Battle Royale.  That is still one of my favorite book and movie.

None taken.
I believe it is loosely based on The Legend of the Minotaur.  What the first book reminded me of was Gladiator, which is one of my all time favorite movies.

I really loved the first two books.  I didn't like the third as well...but I liked it.

I went and bought the first book b/c it was $6 at Walmart.  SOMEBODY asked for it- but that same somebody isn't going to get anything for Easter if the"teenage snarkyness" that has reared its ugly head today doesn't dissapear soon.
The oldest has book 2, and I guess if we all like it I'll get the 3rd one.

I won't read it until we've given it to the child.  And I said we wouldn't see it until everyone has a chance to read the book

Chasing Da Bird...
I loved the first two, but my son is disappointed in the third, so I'm not rushing to read it. The middle school has had "Hunger games" all week after school-the kids run to the cornucopia, they form alliances, they even have a recorded cannon...you get the idea...My 13 year old is SO into it, and it has really helped him to make a few friends at school.

All over facebook now all the women and girls are joining teams like they did for Twilight. I have to finish the 3rd one before I make that call.
(I'm STILL firmly team Edward, I'm not sure I want to join another team-LOL)

Am I the only one who thinks this premise is a re-hash of "Logan's Run" (which was filmed in Fort Worth, among other places), with the plot of "The Most Dangerous Game" thrown in?

Nope, you're not the only one. Then again, what can actually be "new" anymore?

The Most Dangerous Game is not a movie I see ever compared to any now.
