Our daughter and son-in-law are coming for a visit next week. Since they live abroad we don't get to see them as often as we'd like. We text and talk regularly but it's not the same as being together in person. Carleton is excited too! :happycat:

Our garden bed is progressing nicely. Dad and I are putting some old mossy stones along the border. Hard work, but satisfying. I'm looking forward to getting some more plants for it. Just now I saw a blackbird (a British bird similar to an American robin) hopping around in there getting some worms, and there's a crow drinking from the pond. Meanwhile, Cleo is curled up on my knee purring nonstop. ❤

Yesterday we went to our local animal shelter to make a food donation. It's where we adopted our last dog and Neely. Met a very nice volunteer and staff member who we talked to for the better part of a half hour. We even talked about our favorite coffee spots.

Month 34 of the long, long introduction and for the first time I have had a full day of TWO cats in the living room at the same time. Willow has apparently decided she is tired of hiding/sleeping in the closet and spent the whole day sleeping under the end table. Lola went up to her once, got a hiss and left. Not friends but I am good with toleration.

My mental health's not been good over the last few days due to some personal life stuff really pushing me past my limits, but I've kept busy working on the new flowerbed. Yesterday Mum and I went out for a totally unrelated reason, but we stopped off at the local garden centre as Mum wanted something for the vegetable patch and went to check if they had it in stock. While up there, I found an iris I'd had on my wish list for the bed but hadn't thought I was going to be able to get. It was literally the last one in stock so of course I bought it!

We celebrated Mother's Day today since my daughter treated to lunch in the city. She chose a Mediterranean restaurant neither one of us had been to before but it was on the river and wonderful. :heartshape: I had a lovely day and we'll definitely go back again. IMG_2360.jpeg IMG_2367.jpeg

It was warm here today, too warm for me, i.e. 86F. So we spent most of the day at the beach and I brought lunches. I took this pic over the lake and if you look closely you can see the skyline of the city.

I went to visit a good friend today and had to drive through a wooded area. To my surprise a very large deer ran out right in front of my car. :deer: I thought I was going to hit it but stopped just in the nick of time. I swear I could feel my heart pounding. But the positive is I brought my car in for several repairs yesterday, one of which was the brakes. Had the brakes not been repaired I may not have been able to stop in time and lord knows what would have happened.

I saw this truck while driving down the freeway: it was fantastic! For one second when it turned it looked as if there was a gigantic mom cat carefully crossing through multi lane traffic! I love cats in logos.

When I was 9 years old my mom tried getting tickets to a George Strait concert for me because I absolutely loved him. The tickets sold out in minutes (this was pre-everything being online). I was disappointed of course, but I moved on. About a year ago, I randomly thought about seeing a George Strait concert and I kind of become hyperfixated on doing that at some point but he does very limited stadiums now so it just never worked out.

Well, yesterday he had a show in Ames, Iowa, which is 3.5 hours from my house. On Wednesday, I started seriously considering buying a last minute ticket (single seats were significantly reduced) as a birthday gift to myself (my birthday is in 9 days) and I still hadn't made a decision Friday evening. Yesterday around noon, I bought my ticket to see George Strait and I drove 3.5 hours to Iowa to see him. Yes, I did drive home immediately after the concert too and didn't get home until 4am. I am exhausted today.

Seeing him in concert was not only dream I've had for nearly 29 years, it's on my 40 Before 40 bucket list that I can now officially cross off. I'm so glad I went, because I was experiencing a lot of anxiety around going alone and also leaving my dogs for so long without a potty break (they did great and had no accidents). I guess it's just a lesson for me to do the spontaneous thing sometimes, especially if it's something I really want to do but feel anxious about.
