Hello to everybody. I am looking for suggestions on what to feed a very thin cat. He needs to put on a few pounds asap.

I am considering only very good quality, canned, non-kibble foods; price irrelevant.

Thank you !!

Yes, he`s been seen by a vet or two. He is under regular observation. He should be a 9+ pound cat, yet he is around 8-.

his your kitty had blood work done to rule out illness? This should be done before you change kitty's diet
If it were to have an allergy or health problem that is preventing him from gaining weight, some foods could make it worse. you might try a good quality kitten food (chicken soup for the cat lover's soul is good- also, sharky has made several wonderful recommedations in other threads about safe, good foods as well- you might look throughout the health and nutrition forums
) I would be sure blood work has been done first and all illness has been ruled out.

I called the vet today on my very underweight momma cat, The vet said to feed her canned kitten food with KMR and and egg yolk in it...He said that should cause her to gain weight fairly fast...He told me to put the kitten food and kmr in the microwave for about 10 seconds and then add the egg yolk mix it together and give it to her she ate it all...I told him about the skinny strays we have in our neighborhood and he said this could be done for them as well he said it also gave them a boost of energy as well as helping their coat

I have been trying to fatten Ellie for months. She has egg yolk with goat milk, twice a week. The vet has her on a convalescent diet of wet food, and carnitine daily to build up muscle. After 6 weeks of this diet she is definitely putting on some weight.

Our kitty has a simular problem. We saved her from the animal control here in town and she only weighed 3 lbs when we got her. She's got her adult teeth and is between 6-9 months old. We took her to the vet for all her shots and whatnot and in 1 month she's up to 4.5 lbs. I would just keep your cat on a good balanced diet. I hear a lot of people say that it's better to give your cat wet food rather than dry, especially if you want to fatten them up. Also, don't buy the cheap stuff! Get good kitty food for him to eat and serve him a reasonable amount, 1 cup a day should be just fine. He's not terribly underweight so eating regularly and healthy should bring him right up.
