Kitten season has taken my area by storm this year. I tnvr and every time I go to trap I end up bringing home more foster kittens. The area where I live is bad and these kittens all seem to be infested with roundworms. It started in January when I took 3 in. This is when I had a suspected bout of distemper. I wormed one kitten of the 3 with pyrantel and it almost immediately started throwing up worms. I decided not to deworm the other 2 and they were shortly throwing up worms. Within 24 hours they had all passed. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago (after cleaning the CRAP out of my house, THANK YOU to everyone who recommended Rescue) I took in a 2 week old kitten who was abandoned. She was doing really really well, 2 days ago when at 4 weeks old I gave her .005 ml (half of .1?) of safeguard as recommended by a lady I know who runs a rescue. Yesterday morning she was great, by the time I came home from work she had died. At the same time as I found her I had tnvr’d a cat in the same yard that had 6-7 week old kittens, I had previously posted about them throwing up soft food, they were dewormed and are fine. Now I am scared to deworm and scared to not. Every one I have talked to says safeguard is extremely safe and to start worming them at 2-4 weeks. But now I am reading about worm toxicity from too many dead worms in the body after deworming. So what is the proper timeline here. I also have a litter of 6 week old kittens that I know for a fact need to be dewormed but now I am terrified to do so but also scared to wait. What is the proper coarse of action for this situation. Also all of my fosters are separated in different rooms and have no contact with each other.
