What did you have growing up that seems so old fashioned?

I had all my music on vinyl and I used to spend hours taping it onto cassettes so I could listen to it on my 'walkman' (wasn't a walkman but a cheaper version) during car journeys or family holidays. My MP3 player still amazes me!!!
I had roller skates that fastened over my shoes too.
Also the original Nintendo hand held players with Donkey Kong.
I remember having a VCR with a remote control that you had to plug in and there were only 3 TV channels.

Oh yeah, the Snoopy Sno Cone Machine!!

How could we think it was fun to spend a half hour grinding an ice cube to half-fill a little dixie cup and then pour kool-aid on top to make basically a bite-sized snocone??

But man, I had one, and it was so cool!!!

I went to one a couple of years ago, but I don't think they're very common, at least not in my area. It's too bad, because I actually had a lot of fun.

There's no place like home
Most of the above and here's a few more:

45 records
The first McDonald's (change back from your dollar)
Drive in movies
Cuddly Duddly
Dialing "0" for an emergency
An empty appliance box and a couple of blankets made the best forts
Un-neutered pets (no one pushed them back then)
Eight Balls and Quiji boards
Sun screen SPF 4 was the best you could find

We have those now; at college...
Pretty much the party takes place at the entire street instead of one house? Is that what you mean??

Yep, that's what I mean. The street I grew up on didn't have them but they were fairly common on the dead end streets in our neighborhood. My friends lived on the street below mine and they would have a big party once a year. People would bring dishes and drinks, snacks, and the grills were fired up. Good fun.

You know what the funny thing is? There's no reason for this to be a "thing of the past". This street would probably do it if someone organized it.
But I live in a southern midwest town of just a little over 8k population. So it still has that little town feel to it.

My father, who still lives in the town I grew up in (pop. of ~1500), does sort of do this. He or a neighbor will cook out and all the other neighbors pop in, plus their family and friends.

Didn't they play the National Anthem, too?
