I ordered a cold-hardy empress tree today and it's being shipped tomorrow. They don't ship bare-root, which I think is good.

Cold Hardy Empress Tree on Fast Growing Trees Nursery

The web site says they're not available, but they are. I ordered one for now and if we're happy with it, we'll get another one next year. Wish us luck

We are also looking at river birch trees.

DreamerRose DreamerRose Yes, purple-ish flowers in the spring with a scent that's a mixture of gardenia and jasmine, with a little vanilla thrown in for good measure. I'm excited to get it planted.

We never heard of them either, but supposedly they're now really popular. I was looking around for faster growing trees. Losing those trees in the back yard really left a gap. And I found this one. It intrigued me and I mentioned it to Rick, who told me to do what I wanted.

It should get here on Monday. Rick is off work, so he'll come into my work when it comes, take it home and plant it. We received an email with instructions on how to plant it and care for it during its first year.
