I shouldn't need to explain to people knowledgeable about cats how mothers don't always like to feed babies that smell like other cats. That was part of my vets reason for keeping them separated and to keep the kitten with one mother.

At this point I think the best solution for you would be to call your vet and ask your vet what you should do to reduce Whiner's stress. Your vet knows the situation fully whereas members here can only give advice based on the information you have provided.
