Taking care of premature kitten and cat currently in labor?

Sorry the kitten did not make it. For future reference, newborns cannot “gulp” formula. It aspirates into their lungs and can be fatal. This is not necessarily what happened here, but in case you must supplement in the future, it is a slow, drop by drop process initially.

Let us know if the mother cat has more kittens. Do you plan to spay her?

gosh I didn't know, but it did seem interested in the formula the 3 times i fed her. Thanks for the tip. And yes I plan to take her to a TNR clinic next Wednesday :)

I am wondering with the Mom's disinterest in the baby if she knew it would not survive and therefore didn't feel the need to care for it. Or having it and her moved from the spot repeatedly from where she had it. Could have decided to abandon the kitten out of frustration/uneasiness.

So sorry it passed but it sounds like it wasn't going to live anyway. At least you tried.

Please make the clinic aware that she recently gave birth and ask them to determine if she has more near-term kittens still inside before spaying her.
