Hi this is my first post, apologies if I’ve done anything incorrect.

2 days ago on the 4th of March, I came home after a brief trip to the town, I was gone for about 2 and a half hours max. I came home and my cat, Boris came out from behind the sofa dragging both of his back legs. Unable to stand or bear any weight on them.

I live in a second floor flat with a small balcony where his and my other cats litter trays are. They get out by going out of the winds which is behind my sofa so they don’t have to jump up far. Just under the window outside is a bench my partner built above their trays so they don’t get wet in the rain and so they can jump down on the bench and then jump to the floor, again so they don’t have fat to jump. Sorry I’m rambling I’m just trying to give the whole picture.

There was nothing out of place when I got home that could’ve suggested to me that he had got somewhere high and had fell. The cats only have access to the living room and kitchen when we are out as kitchen and living room doors are closed.

I took Boris straight to the vets and they did an X-ray which showed nothing. Slight swelling on his spine but no breaks or fractures. Vets suggested to me that it could possibly be neurological or heart related and that he may need to be referred to a specialist. The vet then suggested a steroid injection and then to go home and see how he goes.

Brought Boris home and he laid in his cat bed pretty much all evening. Later on he started cleaning his legs, he had one in the air. By the morning he was bearing more weight on the left leg.

I took Boris back to the vets yesterday for another check up and they said they think it could be nervehe had made progress with his left leg and he administered another steroid injection and asked for him back in 4 days.

Fast forward to today and he got up this morning as if nothing has happened. He’s walking on both back legs. His right toes keep sort of (?) curling underneath his paw when he walks sometimes. He’s eating as normal, happy as normal and takes himself off to the toilet (back door is left open and cat tray is brought indoors at night).

Has anyone had anything like this happen to their cats? Or ever heard of anything like this? I don’t understand what happened in those 2 hours and how he’s almost back to normal 2 days later? I’m so happy he is but I’m so scared to get my hopes up, I really thought I was going to lose him.

I’m sorry for such the long post and ramble!😌

Also to add -
My cats are indoor cats, they have no way of getting outside other than the balcony and have never tried to jump down. They’d never be able to jump back up if they did

Hi. I don't know how old Boris is, but I would pursue the heart issue. You may know more when you take him back in 4 days from now. I am not really sure how the neurological part would play into this, but perhaps if he did jump wrong and it caused some nerve irritation, that appears it might have helped with the steroids, reducing inflammation in the spine.

Glad to hear he is doing better. And, hope to hear good things when he get re-evaluated by the vet. Keep us posted!
