I know when I moved from Ontario to Alberta, they pegged me right away by my accent, because I tended to add an "ay" sound in the middle of some words.
Like ma-yan, for man, or ma-yandi, for mandi.
as for the about/aboot debate, I have one thing to add:

This is what I was going to say lol. When I moved from Toronto to Alberta, I was pegged right away for having an 'Easter-ling" accent. 8 years later and some people still point it out. lol. Actually most of the people I met in Alberta had that stereotypical 'Canadian' accent. (even my husband lol)

I'm in Manitoba. That's pretty much how I say things too.  The exception is "Bagel".  You say "Bag el".  I say "Bay gle"
Funny.. The "bag-al" thing may be regional. The thing is where I live in Southwestern Ontario everyone rymes "bag-beg-vague" together using the same short "e" sound and uses the "BAIgal" pronunciation.

However even people in Toronto don't do this despite our relatively close proximity as I've had people from there tell me it sounded "weird" to them.

Very peculiar
