Update on Jimmy, I created a cat corner for him with a tree that has a cubby. I slowly moved the futon away from the wall, a little each day to make it less of a dark place. He now stays in the cubby, occasionally goes under the futon. He's been here 36 days, I'm not sure how to progress. I try to spend time in the room. When do I try to start to reel him in? I got alittle close today for the first time since he's out of the cage and got a nasty hiss..... I have music playing constantly with purring and birds.

Get into his comfort zone, let him hiss, and just stay right there in that space.
But when you do that, don't look directly at him, because direct eye contact feels like aggression to cats like him.

Also, give him a break from the music and sounds now and then, and try some of the other cat music variations that are available on other occasions.
