Are there any other opera lovers here? This afternoon I saw Rigoletto with one of my daughters. It was breathtaking, outstanding and electrifying all in one. Gilda's aria was so tender and expressive. Her father's devotion moved me to tears several times. :touched: I guess Carmen will have to take a backseat to Rigoletto. It's close to my bedtime and I should be sleepy but I'm so elated. Looking forward to my next opera, Faust.

neely neely - I suspect that V'ho Ingannato moves all the Romantics everyone, in the same fashion as does Liu's death aria in Puccini's Turandot. Rigoletto is incredibly touching as the third act draws to a close; it's wonderful that it moved you so. As to Carmen taking a back seat to it, PHHHTTTPPPHHHHTTTT! Gimme that rebellious bird any day.

Bizet vs Verdi. I've seen Carmen more than once but have not seen Rigoletto since I was in my 20's. Obviously I am more seasoned and today's performance heightened my taste buds. ;)

The beautiful way you describe this, I am moved to reconsider my long-held indifference to opera. I'm glad the outing with your daughter went so well. Sharing such a sublime experience will make for a treasured memory, for both of you.

Yes, please reconsider. I think you won't regret it. If you lived closer I would go with you. There's something about the opera that is electric. From the moment you enter the opera house until the final bow, (curtain call), you experience a truly euphoric feeling.
