Before I start: I've called the vet! I'm waiting for a call back now. Since she's just gone to the bathroom, I've downgraded this to "very concerning" from "impending emergency".
I'm hoping some of you here have experience with cats holding their urine longer while on Prozac/Fluoxetine. I am aware that this is a possible side effect.
My cat is on a dosage of 2 mg/day, which she takes each evening in pill form. She's a little over 7 1/2 pounds. Prior to going on Prozac, she would urinate twice a day, would poop maybe once every 18 hours. Since she's been on Prozac, it seems like that time has doubled - once a day urination, once, sometimes twice every two days for pooping. She's really weirded me out this time, though - I'm not sure how long it's been between peeing, but it's at least 36 hours.
She went overnight on Tuesday night, and I scooped it Wednesday at about 5 am before I went into work. As of this morning, she hadn't gone again. I was concerned, but it was possible that she'd gone right before I woke up on Wednesday, so I decided to give her the day while i was at work to go again. She didn't until after I was home again this afternoon at 4.
She stays in one room during the day, and I've searched that room for signs that she's gone elsewhere. I can't find any, and there really aren't a lot of options here. Her bladder felt full when I got home, but she seemed in good spirits and playful - not distressed in any way. She just didn't seem to remember that she needed to use the litter box.
I pulled out some Kitten Attract litter and filled another box, and she dug around in it a little while I called the vet, but made no attempt to squat, and then seemed to get bored. She wandered over to her other boxes and sniffed at them curiously, as if I had just changed the litter - interested but not in need of a box. Then she would get distracted and go play with something else. After about 20 minutes, she finally used one.
This is weird, folks. It's like she just didn't remember that she needed to go. I'm going to taper back her dosage a bit and see if that helps. I'd like to keep her on the Prozac for the few months recommended by the vet. She was a genuinely miserable, terrified cat without it and is a genuinely relaxed, cheerful cat with it. I'm very concerned about this development, though.
