I am giving my cat a prescription diet for his urinary problems. I am not happy with the companies I have been using to send me the food. I want to find a good RX site on line to order his food. I see alot of them out there I wondered if anybody has any suggestions for choosing good reliable one. I don't know if publishing particular website/companies is allowed or if PM is allowed here. But some input would be nice.
Thanks

Can you share which companies you have used and what country you are in? Those two items will help you get better responses.

Prescription food may not be needed for all urinary issues. Read this for more info:

It's ok to disagree with the vet about food and feed something else :agree: A canned food only diet can be helpful for cats with urinary issues.

If your cat has been on a prescription diet long enough to break up the crystals, you might be able to transition to a good quality all wet diet. Most urinary prescription diets tend to be needed in severe reoccuring issues or to treat the inutal problem. Most vets aren't well versed in cat nutrition, if you haven't had the conversation with your vet it is worth asking. And if your vet isn't a cat specialist I would consider consulting with a cat specialist to ensure the perscriptipn diet really is still called for. I know my vet does short term perscription diets but will work with the owner to transition to a healthy long term diet after the immediate problem has passed. With urinary issues this is basically doing a transition then urinary testing to verify everything looks good at 3, 6 and one year out from the switch. A low phosphorus and high water content quality wet can be better for your cat while costing less over time. Let's be honest, the prescription diets tend to be chemical concoctions with a lot of fillers. Not the best for your cats overall health but great for a specific problem in a short term.

Chewy is one of the better companies out there IMO, very responsive to problems and will replace anything without major issues. I'd stay away from any big box stores like petsmart or petco. Both my cat and rabbit vets do all their prescription diets through this company Vets First Choice: Find My Vet you might want to see if your vet has a page. I haven't had any problems, shipping is a little slower then Chewy and prices are so-so but its fairly simple to order with them (I usually stock up on flea medicine when they have sales). There is also 1800petmeds which I've used without issue. Going through the vets store front is just easier because the prescription process is a lot smoother since it is directly connected to my vet.

Hi. If your local PetSmart carries the brand you want and has a Banfield clinic within its facility, they may be able to accommodate you. I was able to transfer my prescription from the vet to the Banfield clinic and they have renewed it without question - for years and years now. I don't use their clinic's services either. So, it may not apply to other locations.

And, when I need to pick up more food, it can now be ordered online and the prescription number added to the order, so I can pay ahead and do curbside pick up for the food.

I don't have a local PetSmart but am considering ordering from them online with autoship. Does anybody know anything about PetCareRX? Jethro has crystals in his urine all the time and blood is present all the time. He has only had a true infection once and the rest of the time I'm just trying to keep his water pure and his diet restricted. I am definitely keeping him on Royal Canin Urinary So morsels because he likes it, just haven't found a good reliable place to order from. Thanks

What I failed to mention above, is that with online orders, they have a place to insert a prescription number, along with the vet's name/practice, then they verify the prescription number by contacting the prescribing vet. So, it is possible to use them and not have your prescription transferred to a Banfield facility. This is a relatively new process - started since the COVID-19 outbreak, so I am guessing it is nationwide?

Chewy is running a tad behind, but I have been ordering my boy's Rx diet from them for a long time (RC/SO wet and dry). What issue are you experiencing with them?

I had some problems with ordering but it turned out it was the vet's fault for prescribing the wrong thing. I might consider them again. I am picking up a new script today.
