Preanesthetic blood work

I want to get my female cat spayed, but is preanesthetic blood work necessary before the surgery? Because i know some people who have spayed their cats before without doing any blood tests for them. So i wanna know if it's okay to not do the blood tests or if it's a must.

I would want to do it because if anything would go wrong that the bloodwork could have identified I would never forgive myself. Besides, there are some vets who will refuse to do any kind of surgery without it, so you also need to ask your vet about that aspect. There are also varying levels of bloodwork depending on the cat's age and the type of surgery, for example.

One of mine is a senior and the other has a somewhat "delicate constitution" so better safer than sorry.
