Hi all.

We have a female cat that was diagnosed with open pyometra. Vet has given us antibiotics and anti inflammatories.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Can open pyometra be treated with these medications as he advised us that this will clear it up?
Thanks

Open pyometra is easier to treat than closed. It can be treated as your Vet mentioned, but just keep an eye open to make sure it doesn't happen again. Are you planning on having her spayed once this has cleared up? You can get her spayed now, although it will be more $$$.

Is this a different cat from the mom with kittens?

In general, spaying female cats before their first heat will prevent pyometra from ever occurring. Your cat needs spaying as soon as possible to ensure that she is clear. Pyometra can be deadly.

Yes this is a different cat.
She was meant to be part of our breeding plan but I asked for her to be spayed once he said pyo as I know it can return and have complications further along but the vet said the best treatment was for her to have the medication
