Hey guys and girls,

I am wondering if anyone is familar with this kind of thing? I know my cat has been acting more irritable and cranky lately. I have noticed at times when I go to pet him he tries to purr but it comes out as strange dry sounding wheeze or snore. He will often pull away and want to be left alone it seems; very, very unusual for him. Sometimes the purr does come through and is normal. Could he have a hairball? Perhaps indigestion? He hasn't been his usual self the last couple of weeks. He is typically quite affectionate always; I am having troubles pin pointing out his problem. Other than being cranky he shows no other symptoms, and not long ago had all his bloodwork done and everything was normal. :headscratch:

If all that was done was a CBC, then that won't show a lot of problems. Take him back to your vet, tell them exactly what is going on...mention the changes in behavior and the odd-sounding purr...any and everything you can think of. Make notes if you need to. IF your vet is not responsive to this, let us know. We can give you guidance on finding another one, possibly a feline specialist.

Thanks for the replies. We will keep a close eye on how he does. My spouse said he noticed him since day one of taking him in making that sound when hes really relaxed laying down; well before we started having issues with him. Now that I think of it, I recall hearing it too once while he was asleep. He seems to be perking up a bit mood wise. This doesn't happen all the time either, just occassionally. I will try to get a video clip if it happens again.

Keep us posted. LOL, we fret. Your cat is now, in some small way, our cat as well, and we worry about all of our cats!
Aww. That’s so sweet. ❤ Thank-you Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 . So far he hasn’t done it again. It seems he is perking up a bit with his change in diet as well (he was having some other issues) so far so good. I’ll keep you updated!

Omg that is weird, I got a rescue cat just over a year ago & noticed he hardly ever purrs, but does make wheezing or snoring noises. I just put it down to him not having the best start in life & he didn’t really no how to purr. I mentioned to his vet as I was concerned he might be having issues breathing, but vet couldn’t find anything- my boy is also quite grumpy- I call him my lil wildcat - hopefully ur lil guy is doing okay
