Hi all! I have been feeding a stray cat below my office, my colleagues says it's a female..i’ll just take their word for it as she’s a small built cat and she’s really super lovable. But somehow or rather, I think she attracts males…even though she had already been ear tipped. Whenever the males come, she would hide under our cars and not get out. Once, I managed to escort her out from below the car and to outside our door for feeding and the stray male cat actually followed too! The male cat knows I am feeding it and waited for me to feed him too.. I am actually seeing the female cat hissing at him and actually hid behind a cardboard once when I left the food out (he ate it). I even led the cat in to our office area, with a glass door blocking, she was actually eating well until the cat came and she was so uptight that she couldn’t eat and wanted to get out. This comes my burning question, is it wrong for me to not feed it? I know cats are territorial and I wouldn’t want the male cat to come back and take her place, so am I doing this wrong for not feeding it?

That's a tough question that only you can answer. I myself, can't stand to see an animal hungry, so I feed any I cross paths with. (Could be why I feed 45 nightly lol) Then I figure how to get them TNR'd. It's a boundary issue you have to set for yourself and I completely understand your reasoning.

Wow that's amazing you actually fed that many strays? We have a lot of strays around but i only feed the cat at my office area because it's a bit deserted. My sis often tell me that "Even if you did not feed it, they managed to survive until now. I'm sure it's okay if you didn't feed it." Well she's right but.....oh well....that dilemma. Who's gonna rub my poor fella belly if i'm gone/away?! Anyways thanks for the answer!

They can get food on their own, but it is very sporadic and many starve to death, especially a dumped domesticated cat like you have there. 'Surviving' is not a nice way to live. Females often act like that when a male comes around, and if he is new, even get more upset. They will eventually get used to each other. He won't take her place they will learn to share, but a male, especially an unaltered male, will always be dominant. I feed my big feral toms first and then feed the others, who wait patiently for them to leave. As long as she is spayed you are fine, one won't turn into ten.You will be blessed for caring for that little girl, she most likely hasn't seen kindness in a long time!

If you feel like you can help I would. There are some cons, there are a lot of cat haters who don't like to see you showing them kindness. But it is very rewarding helping cats. It is good karma. I only feed cats that I get fixed, if you feed them without doing that, you are contributing to the overpopulation problem.
